Must be that time of year again, when I would usually miss your birthday by a day or 4... You are still missed deeply, my friend. Love this picture of you in my basement. Such a handsome man. If I could only find the picture of that geeky guy I first met in grade 10. Wishing I could call you just to chat. Saz

TRIBUTE TO JEFF I met Jeff in 1989 and my first impression was that of a fun loving guy surrounded by numerous friends. In short, a party animal! However, as the years passed, I discovered three things about Jeff. Firstly, Jeff's fun loving nature was merely a symptom of his love and respect for life itself. His love was all encompassing. It ranged from the smallest creature to the planet at large. This love of life made him inquisitive and adventurous by nature, an outdoor enthusiast, and an environmentalist. Jeff showed great courage and tenacity in leaving his family and friends to find gainful employment out west when jobs were scarce in Ontario. Nevertheless, working in an open pit mine pained Jeff greatly. He compensated by truly "walking the talk" with carpooling, candles for lighting, dragging out garbage found on his treks, anything to lessen his footprint on this world. Second, Jeff was raised by a loving family that taught him the meaning of the words honesty, integrity, compassion, respect, and loyalty. Jeff extended his family to include his four "kids" through World Vision. His generosity knew no bounds. Jeff was so moved by the movie Pay it Forward that he, on several occasions, paid for the groceries of individuals less fortunate than him. Lastly, it became clear to me that Jeff's greatest love was of family and friends. That his endearing qualities made him easy to be with. Easy to have fun with. Easy to love as a son, a brother, an uncle, and as a friend. We are all bound by our grief at the sudden and tragic loss of Jeff's life. We cannot make sense of this twisted act of fate. We do not comprehend the concept that he is gone from our lives. We can only try to console ourselves with the knowledge that: Jeff did not suffer in pain. Jeff had recently started a new chapter on the greatest love story of his life. His heart was content and fulfilled as it overflowed with love, joy, and excitement. The word lonely was no longer in his vocabulary. Lastly, Jeff's spirit will forever live in the minds and hearts of the many lives he touched. Jeff, you will be missed everyday! Love Nanner and Mike

The Evans family will always hold a special place in my heart!
The "kids" all grew up in the 60's on Erb Street West in Waterloo, Ontario. We had a great neighbourhood filled with kids close in age. We had some great times together! Jeff was always front and centre in those times. All the kids in the neigbhourhood played awesome games of hide and seek, baseball, tobogganed in our back yard and every summer we all got stomach aches from eating green apples in the Goodwin's orchard. There was a great sense of freedom and fun! We spent most of our summers in bare feet. The focus was on having fun outside and the only real rule I remember was to come home when the "street lights" came on.
The things I will remember most about Jeff, other than the great times we had as kids, are his easy smile, the sparkle in his eye and his sense of mischief - there was always a sense of fun and mischief behind the smile and the sparkle. In fact, one of the stories that we continue to talk about as adults was when my brother, Dave, and Jeff filled Lois' (Jeff's mom) gas tank with gravel when they were little - just to see what would happen! :)
Even though I haven't spent much time with Jeff and the Evans family since we all grew up, Rick, Susie, Bud and Jeff will always hold a special place in my heart. I'm very saddened by the tragic loss of Jeff!
Good bye Jeff! I hope you have the same sense of fun and freedom that we enjoyed as kids...wherever you are now!
Love, Juli

My heart goes out to Jeff's family at this difficult time. I will miss Jeff deeply. He was more like a brother than a friend to so many people.

I expected you to live forever, for your heart to always be a safe place to find comfort, live in, and dwell. Through rough waters we traversed together and alone, but in each other's heart we always had a home. You will live in mine forever.

My heart sank at the news. Such a kind, caring & easy going soul. A man that never shied from hard work and always balanced it well with his play. I often thought of Jeff and only geographical distance kept us from getting together for a drink & laugh. I will sincerely miss him. Mike
