Janet was the hub of the Management Development Program for Women, developed at the University of New Brunswick in the eighties. The success of the program was due, in no small part, to Janet's absolute devotion to the learning and development of women. We will remember her as our "sister and guide". She flew into and out of Fredericton so many times and was always interested in knowing what learning there had been i.e., what "ah ha" moments had been experienced on the part of the learners/women in her absence. On a humourous note, I'll never forget a couple of Janet's sayings: just before she went "on stage" to teach a module of the Program, invariably she would say "once more into the breach". And as we sat on the deck sipping refreshments she'd look up at a plane going by and say "glad I'm not on that one" - acknowledgement of how much travelling she did at that point in her career. Rest in peace my friend and know that you made a tremendous contribution to so many people's lives. Maggie Henderson-Davis, past Co-ordinator, Management Development Program for Women, University of New Brunswick

If the measure of a person is the legacy she leaves behind, Janet can be proud of a rich history of love, laughter, friendship, courage and charity. Her curiosity and fine intellect helped others to reach their potential and marked her as a truly exceptional woman. The creativity and group spirit she so often brought to CFUW-KW will be sadly missed by all its members.

Dear Burns and Janet's family - This message of condolence comes from Halifax, where we first met Janet through our great friend D'arcy Dennehy. When Janet moved to Waterloo, I (Chris) saw her more often when I visited my Dad, who lived just down the road at Luther Village. I will always remember our shared love of animals and the passion with which Janet embraced her new life in Waterloo. To her family, our deepest sympathies. Our thoughts are with you. Chris & Peter

Our sincere condolences to Janet's husband and family from Arnold Dagenais and Joan MacLean in Vancouver! Arnold first met Jan when he and she were in the community college network. Joan first met her when Jan was living in Toronto and had her own business. Jan was vivacious, outgoing, and helpful. We are very sorry to learn of her death.

Hello Family and Friends of Janet I wish to send you my thoughts about Janet as we celebrate her life. I am one of the Halifax gals with whom she shared some of her life and many a glass of white wine. I knew her through her days doing Women in Leadership, walking the trails of Nova Scotia, laughing at the plays she wrote, learning our parts, and enjoying her large sense of life. I have many pictures of her - kicking up her heels at weddings, grinning her warm and infectious smile - and being a pal among wonderful friends. I am thinking about you all. I will miss her. Susan

Janet was such a vibrant addition to our gourmet group with CFUW. I always enjoyed her energy and stories when we could get together once a month. I was able to get to know Burns better at the 2011 CFUW book sale. My thoughts are with you Burns and all of Janet's family
