Obituary of Rev.Albin Stanfel
The Lord called home former East District president Rev. Dr. Albin J. Stanfel, Thursday, July 7, 2011. Rev. Stanfel, who lived in Kitchener, was surrounded at the time of his death by his children Julie, Albin William and Marty. He served as president of the East District, Lutheran Church-Canada (formerly LCMS Ontario District) from 1970-1991. Rev. Stanfel was 82 years old.
Born in Laurium, Michigan, Rev. Stanfel was baptized, confirmed, and married Dorothy Jean Honold in the same church - St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Laurium, Michigan.
Rev. Stanfel was ordained into the Holy Ministry of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod on August 7, 1955. He established Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Thistletown (Etobicoke) Ontario from 1955-1964, and Hope Lutheran Church in Kitchener, Ontario where he served from 1964 to 1968.
He served the Ontario District, LCMS as Associate Executive Secretary from 1968 to 1970 when he was elected Ontario District president, a position he held until 1991.
Rev. Stanfel was predeceased by his wife Dorothy and son Jonathan; and survived by his brothers Bill and Fred, his children Julie and husband Michael, Bill and wife Elaine, daughter-in-law Elaine, Marty and wife Nancy, and six grandchildren, Jennifer and husband Greg, Carly, Michael, David, Vanessa and Matthew.
Funeral service will be Saturday, July 16, 2011, 2 p.m. at Historic St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 137 Queen Street South, Kitchener, Ontario. Reception following at the church.
