One of the things I will miss the most about Craig was his ability to discuss just about any topic. He never claimed to be expert about anything but was very knowledgeable and interested in many things. During one of our many dive excursions I had opportunity to see first hand how curious he was about new things. He picked me up one Friday afternoon to go diving the old Welland Canal. He saw it on-line and we just had to do it! With all our gear in the truck we drove to Welland and found the dive site used by the local dive clubs. Ten minutes into our first dive we swam across an object lying on the bottom of the canal. I thought it was a toy at first but after a closer look realized it was a lizard of some kind. I had never seen one like this before, with a body approx. 5" lg and almost an inch in diameter it was fairly big. It's tail was the same length as the body and it's head was larger than the body and shaped like a snakes head. Craig was poking at it with his gloved hand, realizing it was dead he then picked it up. He looked it over for quite a while before I nudged him to move on. He let the lizard fall back to the bottom and we carried on with our dive. On the surface between dives we had both agreed we never seen a lizard like that before. We planned our second dive and entered the canal again. During the second dive we came across the same lizard. This time Craig takes off his glove and starts poking at it again. He pick's it up and looks it over again as if it was first time. I'm looking at him thinking what the heck is he doing now. After a couple of minutes he puts it down again and carries on with the dive. We did three dives that afternoon and we were feeling tired after backing up the gear. Because we were tired it was a pretty quiet ride home. About half way home he look's at me and say's "We should have put that lizard thingy in a bucket and brought it with us". Thanks for letting me share!

I only knew Craig through hockey, but I firmly believe that how a person is on the ice is a strong reflection of the type of person they are off the ice. The Craig I knew was a fierce competitor that never gave up, but always played with a smile on his face. He was a great goalie, a great man, and he'll be missed by many.
