Obituary of Hugh Morrison
Passed away at home in Waterloo on August 4, 2011, at the age of 74.
Hugh was born in Liverpool, England and raised in Edinburgh, Scotland. He attended George Herriot's School and went on to attain his PhD in Physics at Edinburgh University where he taught for two years before immigrating to Canada. Hugh began working at the University of Waterloo in the Department of Physics in 1965 and retired in 1996.
Hugh was deeply loved and respected by Fran, his wife of 48 years. Wonderful dad to his children, Andy of Ottawa and Clair and Sue of Kitchener, and very special grandpa to Ella and Declan. Brother-in-law of Maggie and Peter Fioravanti of Waterloo and Chris and Moira Pope of Broughty Ferry, Scotland. Hugh will be missed by his nieces and nephews; Stella Stroud-Lusk, Kristina Dickson, Tanya Stroud, Nick and Mark Roberts, Iain Pope, Mark, Mike, and Natalie Fioravanti, and all of their families. Especially remembered by Colleen Caplin, Mark McLelland, and Don Gonder.
Hugh was predeceased by his parents; Hugh Morrison and Clair MacGregor from the Orkney Islands, Scotland, parents-in-law; William Pope and Margaret Boyle from Edinburgh, Scotland, sister-in-law Dorothy Roberts and her husband Cliff Roberts from Suffolk, England, and Fran and Hugh's infant son, Gregor.
Friends are invited to share their memories of Hugh with his family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Sunday, August 7, from 2-4 p.m. The memorial service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Monday, August 8, at 11 a.m. A reception will follow.
