Mrs. Summers, Linda and Joanne The service today was very nice. Although it's been a long time since I've seen any of you, it gave me a chance to reflect on the time I was able to spend with your family, particularly the summer I spent with Mr. Summers after grade 13. It was just the two of us while the three of you were at the cottage. I realize how fortunate I was to be able to spend the time with him that I did. The comments during the eulogy about him being a positive influence, including to those he may not have realized, really resonated with me. He was an influence on me. In fact, the time I spent with all of you was special. You were the "most normal" family I had ever been around. I am now the father of six and I genuinely believe that the time I spent with you has influenced the father that I have become. Your family left a lasting impression on me about love and loyalty. Just not long ago I was remembering when I was in high school trying to make plans with Linda but she would not want to leave her father alone on a weekend night, and how I hope my kids might worry about me the same way. It was so clear how much she loved her Dad. I remember him when I read the Globe and Mail and he explained to me that his employer expected him to do so. I think of him on these hot summer days when I take a cold blast of water at the end of my shower to cool down my body temperature because, during the summer we spent together, he told me it was a good idea. I'm sure you have a million more memories of him that are much more significant than mine, but I wanted you to know I still think of him and all of you this many years later. Audrey and family,we are sending this message from Vancouver Island as we are on a holiday trip. We received a phone message from my sister advising us of Kip's passing. Please accept our heartfelt sympathy on your loss of Kip. We have been lucky to be associated with you and Kip since the 1970's. First through curling and the Granite Club and more recently through the Retired Business and Professional Men's Club. Kip has been a joy to anyone who has crossed his path. Kip was one of the most beautiful spirits on the planet. His deep love of his family was so evident, and as for friends, he always made them feel that he was especially interested in them, and they in turn felt good to be with him. His demeanor was so positive and engaging. He was truly a shining light in this world and it was a privilege to have known this man.
