Obituary of Sidney "Lyle" Spencer

Lyle passed away peacefully at the Grand River Hospital, Kitchener on Sunday morning, March 26, 2017. Lyle is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Reta (nee Noble); daughters Carol Spencer (Gary Huenemoeder), Susan Spencer-Gagné (Yvan Gagné) and son-in-law Gee Wong; grandchildren Nicole Delion, Sidney and Sean Gagné, sister-in-law Alice (Bill) Clifton; and many nieces and nephews. Lyle is predeceased by his daughter Pauline; parents Sidney and Minnie; brothers Norman (Donalda), Harry, Bruce (Wilma); sisters Grace (George) Hooker, Leonore (Allan) Green and sister-in-law Ruth (Bill) Major. Lyle was born and raised in Milverton, Ontario (his favourite place to be) and worked for over 30 years at Dominion Life in Waterloo. Lyle was an avid musician who played in the Milverton Legion band for 76 years and the Listowel Legion Pipe Band for 40 years. All of Lyle's friends and fellow bandsmen would certainly wish him God “speed”. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors from 5D North at Grand River Hospital and the staff at Clair Hills Retirement Community whose kindness and compassion were a great help to them. Relatives and friends are invited to share memories of Lyle during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday, March 30 from 10-10:45 a.m. The funeral service to celebrate Lyle's life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Linda Ashfield officiating. A reception will follow the service in the Fireside Reception Room.
