Obituary of Derek Armbruster

With gratitude to the Lord for peacefully ending his pain, the family of Derek Armbruster are saddened to announce his passing on Monday, January 22, 2018, at the Freeport Campus of Grand River Hospital after a three-month battle with cancer.

Derek was born October 16, 1960, to Doreen and Del Armbruster and was predeceased by his father on November 10, 2017. Left to mourn him are his mother, Doreen, brother Mark (Patti), sister Lisa (Sean Montgomery) and his much-loved nephews and nieces, Jason and Brett Montgomery and Rachel, Megan and Sarah Armbruster.

Derek spent a good portion of his younger years travelling North America looking for adventure, finally settling back home in Kitchener in 1992.  Owner of a canteen truck, he was proud of the Elmira route he had built up over the years and he enjoyed meeting new people through this venture.

Family and friends are invited to share their memories of Derek with his family during a  memorial visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Thursday, January 25, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Friday, January 26, at 11 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 78 John St. West (at Severn), Waterloo, followed by a reception in the Parish Activity Centre. Cremation has taken place and interment will be at Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo, at a later date.

Special thanks to the compassionate care provided by the healthcare team at the Freeport Palliative Unit during Derek’s one-month stay. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Grand River Hospital Foundation—Cancer Centre or to the Building Fund of Redeemer Lutheran Church or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated and may be made by contacting the funeral home at or 519-745-8445.
