Gerald "Gerry" Wildfang

Obituary of Gerald "Gerry" Roy Wildfang

Gerry passed away with his family by his side at Innisfree House in Kitchener on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 in his 80th year.

Gerry is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Shirley (nee Bricker); children, Stephen (Darla) Wildfang of Edmonton, Shelley (Todd) Pleon, Jennifer (John) Weir, Jeffrey (Kelly) Wildfang, all of Waterloo, and Jay (Linda) Wildfang of Kitchener.  Gerry is sadly missed by his 11 grandchildren and their partners, Kyle (Kelly Stamp), Larissa (Willem Kubke), Michael (Catherine Mesly), Jack, Alex, Jake, David (Sam Smeaton), Connor, Andrew, Emily, and Sandy.  He will be fondly remembered by his sister Jeanne (Lou) Seyler of Port Elgin.

Predeceased by his parents Roy and Alma (nee Dotzert) Wildfang and sister Marjorie and her husband Gus Dahlberg of Calgary.

As a youngster, Gerry was very adventurous.  He had a passion for life and never stopped moving.  His family will remember with love his sense of humour, quick wit and strong opinions. He owned and operated Triangle Insulation for 42 years until his retirement.  He loved the outdoors and his cottage at Gillies Lake which he built with the help of family and friends and leaves behind 47 years of good times, laughter and many card games.

Gerry had a love of music and played the french horn with the 48th Field Squadron Royal Canadian Engineers Trumpet Band and later the Guelph Royalaires.  He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 532 New Hamburg until his passing.

Gerry was a very generous man devoting many years as a coach to womens softball and manager to the Waterloo Bantam AA boys travel hockey team.  An avid sports buff, he was the number 1 supporter of his grandchildren’s athletic pursuits, rarely missing a game of hockey, soccer, baseball, lacrosse, football – you name it he was there with Shirley by his side.

The family wishes to express their gratitude and thanks to nurses Cindy and Laura, Dr. Lana Tan and the staff and volunteers at Innisfree House for their loving care of Gerry and support of the family through his illness.

Gerry’s family will receive relatives and friends at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S.
