Myself and my Mother we’re fortunate to meet the Patterson’s at our former quilt shop, “The Sap Bucket” in Elmira. Nancy -Lou ‘s individualistic personality influenced me to be myself. My family and Mennonite sewers worked together on her huge dossel design for St Peter’s Lutheran Church in Kitchener. I recall many stories from our meetings but my favourite is the time we drove to a Mennonite quilter’s home and we had to stop the car in order for her to photograph a. manure pile because, “ You don’t see those any more.” Sometimes I passed by the Patterson’s former home and I would wonder about them. It is unthinkable for me to consider her diagnosis of Alzheimer’s. It was a treat to meet several of the Patterson offspring whom I believe had a very special upbringing. Best wishes to Palmer.

Nancy-Lou was an amazing woman who lived a life that will continue to have a positive effect on this world forever. My husband and I lived with Nancy-Lou and her family when we first arrived in Canada. Such a loving welcome changed our lives. Thank you to her family. We join you as so many mourn her departure.

Nancy-Lou was the person who by hiring me for her fledgling Fine Arts Department helped me to launch my university career. Thus, I have always felt a particular attachment and indebtedness to her personally. UW Fine Arts Department which she headed for many years was and remains a great and lasting contribution to the University.
I am in Europe at present and cannot express my sympathy in person. Kindly add my profound condolences to her family and relate this also to the Fine Arts Department.
Best regards,
Jan (also for Yvonne who is in Singapore at present).

One of my mother's best friends, Wilma Foley, taught Fine Arts at Trent University, when it first opened in the 60's. We had several pieces that Wilma created at home, while growing up. I remember when my brother told us that you Mother created the windows at Conrad Grebel, my Mom, Wilma and I went to see them. I always remember that day. Wilma spoke very highly of your Mother. She told me I was lucky to know her children! Your Mother was so talented and such an AMAZING woman. I know your Mother is no longer suffering and has started her next journey of her life. This is truly a blessing. May God give your entire family strength during the difficult days and weeks ahead.

Colette and I wish to express our deepest condolences on the passing of your mother. I started teaching in the School of Architecture in January of 1970 and as such, had the privilege of dealing with her on a number of occasions in the early 70’s when the School of Architecture was in its infancy stages. She was truly an amazing woman and one of the most respected Professors on campus. I shall treasure the memories I have of her.
Our very best to you and family during this difficult time.
