Obituary of David Barkley

David Roy Barkley, 66, of Kitchener, Ont., passed away peacefully in his sleep Friday, January 11, 2019.

David was born in Toronto, Ontario to Elma Croft and Roy Barkley on March 6, 1952. He spent his childhood on Ballantyne Avenue, went to high school at Central Secondary School and went on to earn his Honours in English from the University of Waterloo. He worked as a Senior Executive in financial services for many years. He was an outdoor enthusiast who found great joy in camping, hiking and canoeing in Northern Ontario. He was also a fiercely avid reader, collector of vintage watches, and a devoted jazz fan.

David is survived by his children, Jane and Jesse Barkley, his wife Liz Hietkamp, his sisters Sharon, Wendy and Linda, his sister in law Sheila Barkley, his grandchildren Noah, Mira and Eadie, his nieces Katherine and Allison, Trish and Heather, Carol, Janet and Kelly, and his nephews Stephen, David and Michael. He is preceded in death by his beloved brother Doug, father Roy, and mother Elma. Cremation and a private family service will be held.
