Joy Heimpel

Obituary of Joy Heimpel

It is with great sadness that we announce Joy’s passing at the age of 73. She passed away peacefully at The Village at University Gates in Waterloo.

Joy will be missed dearly by her beloved family, daughter Patti and her husband Wayne (Wagner) and son Jeff and his wife Nadine (Melloul). She was a wonderful and loving Nana to Cole, Brock, Derek, Luke and Adrienne.

Joy was predeceased by her husband, Graham Denman and her parents Rosemarie and Arthur (Pat) Zilliax and Aunt Violet Black. She remained a close friend to Bruce Heimpel, father of her children and was special Aunt “AJ” to Susan, Linda and Steve Jacobi. Joy will be fondly remembered by her family and friends for the bountiful energy she gave to others, her joy of living and her inner strength throughout her illness.

Mom was a longtime resident of Elmira and worked as a dental assistant and receptionist for over 35 years and later spent her retirement on the shores of Lake Huron. She was actively involved with various social committees, enjoyed time with friends, knitting, and cheering on her favourite sports teams.

Joy’s family would like to extend their gratitude for the wonderful care and compassion that was received by the staff at The Village at University Gates, especially to those in the Wright neighbourhood.

Cremation has taken place.  A private family service will be held at a later date.   A Celebration of Joy’s Life will be held in the Spring. Details will follow.

Condolences for the family and donations in Joy’s memory to the Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging (RIA) may be arranged through the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
