Obituary of Barry Edward Noice
It is with great sadness that Anne announces the passing of her husband Barry Noice on February 7, 2019 at the age of 80.
Barry was born in Stratford to Doris and Harry Noice. He was a good student, played viola in the Stratford Symphony Orchestra and while at school enjoyed jobs as a cook and busboy at local restaurants and a hotel. He enjoyed cooking for the rest of his life.
In 1953, the family moved to Woodstock. It was here Barry met his future wife, Anne Iredale, as they attended the same high school. In 1956 the family moved to London where Barry attended the University of Western Ontario taking the Honours French and German program. Anne took the same program and they graduated together in 1961.
Anne and Barry were married in 1962 and in the summer of 1963 they spent nine weeks in Europe on their honeymoon. This was the start of many summers spent in Europe.
Barry started teaching French and German at Preston High School in 1961 and stayed at the school for his entire teaching career. He enjoyed teaching and getting to know his students.
In 1982, Barry and Anne purchased some land on top of Blue Mountain near Collingwood, bought a century-old log home and had it reassembled on their land. It was here they spent their weekends and summers, cross-country skiing in winter and gardening and hiking in summer.
In 1994, after Anne finished cancer treatment and they both retired from teaching, Barry and Anne moved to the village of Conestogo where they ran The Old Flax Mill B&B. Later, the B&B became Wings of Hope and they gave support to cancer patients and their care givers. Barry enjoyed life in the village very much especially his walks with his beloved yellow Lab, Zoë.
In 2008, Barry and Anne moved to a condo in Waterloo, Grand Bluffs and here Barry continued his hobby of painting in watercolour and acrylics. In retirement, Barry also enjoyed getting together with former colleagues for breakfast once a month and being a part of a painting group and the Probus reading group.
Barry is survived by his beloved wife, Anne, his brother, Ron, his brothers-in-law Reg Laventure and John Iredale and John’s wife, Bev. He was predeceased by his sister-in-law Nancy Laventure.
