Frank Fowlie

Obituary of Frank Fowlie

Frank, Dad, Pops, Poppy passed away after 93 amazing years on this Earth.  Frank has gloriously gone to reunite with his beloved Betty to whom he was married for 67 years and who predeceased him in 2013.  Loving father and hero to Lynn (Don) Roy, and Blair (Peter) McLaughlin and to the late Frank Jr. (2002). Poppy was adored by his grandchildren Lyndsay (Ryan) Purcell, Cayley Roy (Sean Lagan), Tayler Roy (Mike Balogh), Brooklyn McLaughlin, Owen McLaughlin and great-grandson, Ty Purcell.

Frank was predeceased by his sisters Iverna Pagel and Kaye Tierney.

Through Frank’s last few months, he frequently reminisced about what a great life he had and that he was prepared to move to his Eternal home.  Frank had a lengthy career in the bakery industry in several capacities ranging from baker to bakery sales representative to sales consultant, taking his final retirement from work at age 81.   He was a founding member of All Saints Anglican church in Waterloo and in the days of the original church plant of this new church had to convince his own mother, that she should move from her home church to this new venture.  No easy feat, if you knew his mother.  He served in various capacities within All Saints throughout the years including Rector’s and People’s wardens and loved being part of the choir.  In addition to his career and church, Frank enjoyed sports and fitness and prided himself on being part of the Waterloo Y Ball Hockey team until he was 71.  The friends and relationships that he made through that time have lasted through many decades.  Almost as much as he loved his family, was the love for his LA Dodgers!  He physically resembled Tommy Lasorda and felt like they were kindred spirits.  Frank and Betty enjoyed many years of Florida trips to watch Dodger spring training in Vero Beach.

Frank’s family would like to extend our sincere thanks and much gratitude to the very kind individuals who supported Dad through his recent illness:  Julia Balcerzak, Nancy Carlisle-Weaver, Norm Harper, JR Hillier, Larry and Joan Kieswetter, Mary Flatt and Stephen Swatridge, Pat Murphy and Ed and Sandra Poolton.  These individuals are definitely evidence that kindness and unconditional giving still exists in this sometimes angry world.  We would also like to thank the team at Clair Hills who cared for Dad so selflessly during his 4 month stay including Benson, Emily, Marilou and all the Clair Hills team.

Frank’s family will receive relatives and friends at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Thursday, April 4, 2019 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.  A Celebration of Frank’s life will be held at All Saints Anglican Church, 400 Northfield Drive West, Waterloo on Friday, April 5, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Pastor Marty Levesque officiating.  Interment at Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo will immediately follow.
