Derek was always kind and caring to me and my daughter Chantell in the 10 years of being neighbours. Never forget the nice tea he made in the backyard just before he and Sandy moved. He told me he was happy with his new beginning and their new home. He loved his family.

I am sending my condolences to all of Derek's loved ones. I am Sandy Ryan Williams' cousin, but I also knew Derek as far back as when I was in Grade 6 at Lincoln Avenue Public School. I had a half-locker above his and even though I was very short and could barely reach it; I jokingly refused to switch with him at first, but eventually gave in. Our paths crossed again when I was in my late teens and he helped me get a job in London, ON where I met my son's father; so he will always have a special place in my heart. He was a big "teddy bear" to me and always greeted me with a smile and I could sense he had a big heart. I will miss him greatly. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. With Love, Lynne xoxo
