Obituary of Ronald Neil Booth

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ron on Friday, August 9, 2019 after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease over the past ten years.

Much loved husband and best friend of Margo; devoted father of Steven (Judy), Scott (Maureen) and beloved Papa to Griffin and Ava.

Ron’s teaching career began in Southern Ontario.  With a strong desire to serve in the military, he taught three years in the Royal Canadian Navy, Halifax. 

Returning to Waterloo, he taught at Waterloo Collegiate Institute.  After five years, he taught at Elmira District High School as Science Department Head, retiring after twenty-two years.

During his time at Elmira, he was awarded the Shell Oil Fellowship at McMaster University (1972).  In 1989, he was awarded the Chemical Institute of Canada for the top chemistry teacher award for excellence in teaching, travelling to Victoria, BC to receive the award.

His passion for sports and nature had him Nordic skiing, canoeing, camping and fishing for many years.

He was a faithful member of First United Church, Waterloo and sang in the choir for forty-two years.

He was a member of the Waterloo North Kiwanis Club where he organized UNICEF Christmas sales.  He belonged to the Retired Business And Professional Men’s Club.

Cremation and a private family service will be held.  A Celebration Reception of Ron’s life will take place at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Friday, August 16, 2019 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

With heartfelt thanks to Lanark Heights Long Term Care, Pine Community, Ron’s home for over two years.  Thanks to the wonderful staff for the loving care and compassion to Ron and his family.
