I will be forever grateful for Gary's leadership, support and mentorship during my years at GRCI. He will be remembered forever because of the lives he touched.
His mantra"Reach out and touch somebody's hand and make it a better world if you can." speaks volumes of the kind of man he was.

Dear Martha and family
Chee and I would like to express our deepest condolence. We are truly sorry for your loss. No words can describe our shock and surprise to hear of Gary’s passing. He will be sadly missed. He always had time for others or he would make time for others.
I know this as he had made time for me on many occasions even just to “lend me an ear”. I will miss Gary and also his sense of humour.
Thank you Gary and RIP.

Gary was my defensive coach with the Waterloo Warriors football team. He instilled physical and mental discipline, a strong work-ethic, a desire to give-back as well as, most importantly, heart and perseverance. His lessons remain with me, and likely many others, to this day. Condolences to his family and close friends.
Thank you Gary and rest in peace.

Shocked when I read about Gary's passing in the paper...I missed having that cold brew with him that he offered me back at a retirement party that we attended...we haven't seen each other for about 40 years and it was like we didn't miss a beat...he said lets get together some Friday at the Waterloo Legion but it just didn't happen...now I learned a lesson take time out of your busy day and have those wishes fulfilled...RIP Buddy...my next cold beer I will be thinking about you...

I had the pleasure of reconnecting with Gary at last years Warrior vs. Laurier reunion game. Gary had a big smile and continued to be full of positive energy just like when he coached at Waterloo in the 80's. My condolences to the Boug family in particular to Bill who was gracious to me as a rookie in 1980. Gary you will be remembered.
Sincerely,

Gary was an icon to the physical education teachers of Waterloo County. We feel very fortunate to have had him as an advocate and mentor over our careers. Mike had Gary as an associate teacher during his time at Althouse and was instrumental in him becoming a successful teacher. Gary was the one person we could always count on "to make it right or make it work". He challenged all of us to be better in the classroom and on the fields or courts while coaching. He was respected and loved by all.

‘Mr. Boug’ made every team, every class and every student feel they were special. He certainly made the ‘Class of ‘68’ at WCI feel that.
I wonder how many former students’ weddings, special events and celebrations he was invited to ... probably hundreds.
The world feels a little diminished with the loss of this wonderful and inspiring man.

I had the privilegde of knowing Gary on two fronts; as my VP and better yet football coach at WCI. Gary was a man young men could look up to and aspire to be like one day. He represented honour, integrity, passion, accountability, family and giving back to one's community.
I remember one night when we were practising pretty bad and Gary wasn’t feeling well. Suddenly he walked to the sidelines, vomited, looked up, wiped his face, took a swig of water and yelled, “now lets bet back to work!!!.” Let’s just say we had an amazing practice after that.
I looked up to Gary a great deal and he taught me how to believe in myself and pursue my life’s dream of playing university football at the Univerity of Guelph. I later joined the Guelph Police Service and began coaching high school football on my off time to “be like Gary” and give back to young men and help them along their way as he did with me.
Coach, your legacy will live on for generations simply because you took the time to care for people, give of yourself and ask nothing in return.
Enjoy your angel wings, they are well deserved.

My first meeting with Gary was on the basketball floor. way back in the early fifties. Gary played for Beck in London, and I played for KCI. We did not connect again until he moved to KW to teach. While we were not close friends, Gary always responded in a positive and enthusiastic way when we met. Gary was well respected in the teaching profession. As a reflection of this respect, he was nominated by his staff at Grand River and did receive from St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, the Stewart Award For Teacher Excellence (presented in memory of Dr. Finlay Gordon Stewart). I will miss seeing his smile and his personality. My heartfelt sympathy to Martha and the family.

Mr. Boug was such a generous man. My family had moved across the line where I should have gone to another high school and he got permission for me to attend Grand River with my Stanley Park classmates. Then at the end of my grade 11 year my family decided to move out of town and I was very upset. Mr. Boug offered to have me stay with him and his family to finish grade 12 and 13. He was so kind and tender hearted. I didn’t accept his offer because I knew I would miss my family too much, but his offer helped me to not feel so alone. Blessings.
