Dear Liz and family,
I am terribly sorry to hear of the passing of Tom.
I went to St. Jeromes High School with Tom. He was a good friend and we had a lot of good times. I remember in Grade 11 on March Break, Tom and I went on a bus trip to FT. Lauderdale for the week. We had a blast! We went to Disney World there as well. Unfortunately with me moving away, I did not see him much which I regret.

Dear Liz, PJ, and Chris.
Ronnie and I are in shock and are so very sad about the passing of Tom; a great husband and father and community hero. It feels like only yesterday that we'd be picking up our kids at the end of the day from the KW Bilingual School; you, Liz, pushing Chris in the stroller. Please know that we are thinking of you, and send our deepest condolences. If it's okay with you, Liz, we will also make a donation in Tom's memory to the KW Bilingual School, where our friendship began.

Dear Liz, PJ, Chris, Doreen and family,
I was so sad to hear that Tom passed away. My thoughts are with you and your family.
While Tom had so many interests, his family was so important to him and he loved you so much. I met Tom while he was a board member at St. Mary's. His positive attitude, love for science (in particular diagnostics), and quest for ongoing improvement made a positive impact at St. Mary's and I am sure the same holds true with respect to his involvement with other community services and business. Tom was also a true friend that always had a wonderful story to share about his endeavours in the areas of culinary, music, travel, and many other interests.
I am so thankful for the opportunity to spend some time with Liz and Tom at Chudleigh's apple farm last fall.
He was a wonderful person that will be dearly missed by many people.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Lydia Chudleigh

Tom reached out to me after my book, BlackBerry Town, was published last fall. He wanted to share a few anecdotes about Jim Balsillie when he was employed briefly at Trimaster in early 1990s. I subsequently used them in my blog, which you can find at chuckhowitt.com. Tom also came out to a speech I gave about my book to Kitchener-Conestoga Rotary Club in December. It was great to reconnect with him after so many years. I knew him when we both worked at the Waterloo Region Record. His support for my book meant a lot to me as I was having trouble marketing it beyond Waterloo Region. Tom took a great interest in the local tech community and the local economy in general. His comments about how the economy had bounced back from the decline of RIM were very insightful. When I heard of his death I could not believe it. He will be missed. My sincere condolences to the family. Chuck Howitt.

To Liz, Chris and PJ, Judy and I were heartbroken when we heard the news. Tom was always full of joyful life and passion for the myriad interests and causes he threw himself into. We are honoured to have had our paths cross in so many ways, originally as fellow geeks when I was at MKS and Tom was at the record, later GTAN, food foray, recently Les Marmitons, and of course your wonderful annual anniversary galas. It is especially challenging to truly celebrate such a giant at this time of the pandemic, and I do hope that when the world returns to some sort of new normal, we can properly get together to share our thoughts.
We will continue to hold Tom in our prayers and thoughts.
With condolences, Randall and Judy

Liz, I will always remember Tom for his bountiful knowledge that he generously shared with many of us and his unbounded curiosity that infected us. We laughed with such glee at our wicked double-entendres that passed from Japanese to Mandarin to English. As others note, Tom was truly a Renaissance Man and a delightful companion.
One of the most memorable days of my life was the day that Tom, Chris, PJ and you visited San Francisco when I was back in my hometown. Along with Marney, all of you crammed into the rented van for our Hippy Dippy San Francisco Trippy Tour, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, and Scott McKenzie blaring out our windows. Again and again, we slalomed down Lombard and then inched our way back up the steepest slopes in Russian Hill, gasping at the nothing-but-sky view as we cautiously approached each intersection. Liz, you had wanted to see the Painted Ladies and so we did, firstly the subtly hued Victorian houses at Alamo Square and then the populace in the Castro, who were anything but Victorian. We dragged Tom into The Mission despite his reluctance to visit a barrio. Together we walked in awe past the many beautiful Hispanic murals painted by residents on their walls, on their garage doors, and on their fire hydrants. That such powerful evocation of politics and society could be painted by people who didn’t consider themselves to be artists was inspiring. The day ended when we had steaming Roasted Vietnamese Crab at Crustacean. It was the perfect ending of a perfect day. Marney and I will forever remember sharing that day with Tom, your sons, and you. Our thoughts are with you as we all miss Tom together.

Dear Liz, PJ and Chris,
Our sincerest condolences on the unexpected passing of Tom. I was shocked to hear the news. He was a wonderful man and I so enjoyed all the times he would stop by my office to say hello and chat not only about hospital issues, but about his travels, his many varied interests or his latest sushi restaurant discovery. I will miss that beaming smile stepping through my office door. He had a contagious zest for life! Prayers and thoughts are with you Liz and the family during this very difficult time.

Tom and I were good friends through high school and university, we even completed driver training together. For years, if we bumped into each other out and about, instead of "goodbye" he would remind me to "aim high in steering" with the mischievous grin and twinkle in his eye. May your memories allow you to smile through the tears, and may you feel the comfort and support of all who knew and loved him. He was a good guy. Lisa (Cheeseman) MacColl

Dearest Liz and Family
I am truly heartbroken. Some of my earliest memories are of the time spent with Tom throughout grade school and it's impossible to think of our community without him. In all my memories of Tom, he always has a huge joy-filled smile. A truly wonderful renaissance man, he always shared his great joy and enthusiasm for his community, the arts and the wonders of the world. I am grateful for all the times we've shared. I'm sure all of our lives have been enriched by every moment shared with him. I'm quite sure all our hearts are with you and the entire family in your sorrow. Let us raise a glass in memory of our dear friend.

Hi Liz and Family. Sabine and I would like to convey our deepest sympathies to you all. Since we are talking memories, one of my favorites is when Tom and I were asked to create amuse bouche of our choosing with no recipe for our Les Marmitons cooking group. It was the most fun that I have had cooking and I got to share it with Tom. I don't think that I laughed so much either. It was an amazing evening doing something we loved. I will always remember with a big smile that day Tom!

Sandy and I have known Tom for many years and we like most folks who knew him considered him a "Renaissance Man" in that he was talented in so many fields of interest. We shared many of his interests, Rotary, Home Hosting, St Mary's Hospital governance, Le Marmiton, and so much more. We'll miss his warm and welcoming presence, his kind and generous hospitality and of course the interesting discussions that you always count on him to engage in. What a loss for you Liz and your fine sons. May the Good Lord take him home to his just reward. Wait for us my friend.

Dear Liz, PJ and Chris, Doreen and Bill, John and Heather,
I have been praying for all of you, hearing about the passing of Tom. Gone too soon! I have happy memories of seeing Tom playing beautifully during Mass at St. Jerome's University Masses. I remember seeing you, Liz, with Tom at Christmas Mass at St. Louis (2019). Tom was a man who took seriously the call to 'give back' to the Community, and to share his time, talents and treasure with others. He did this faithfully, and so many people benefited from this generous stewardship. Yet, he had a humility and never called attention to himself or made it 'all about me'. He leaves a great legacy and example to be followed by us all. I will be offering my Mass for Tom on Friday at our Generalate in Rome. May the consolation and peace of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
