Dear Louise,
My deep condolences on your great loss. I first met Tom in 1967 when he hired me as an Associate Professor from Melbourne University and my years at UW 1968-1983 were truly wonderful with many good memories of yourself and Tom especially when we lived in the same townhouse complex. I loved especially the warm and friendly Polish community including Kon Piekarski, Stan Kadela and enjoyed returning to the amazing UW campus after moving on first to TCD Ireland and then back to Australia via Singapore. I enjoyed the picture of your UW campus covid-19 rambles with Tom who should rightly have become UW President. I am now retired to Vancouver and soon to be a great-grandfather, ever immensely grateful to Tom.for his good friendship fifty years ago.
Warmly
David

Dear Louise and Family,
Over the course of a distinguished career, Tom mentored and befriended many, many people. I consider myself to be one of the lucky ones whose life was touched by this great human being.
Tom and I crossed paths many times over the course of his career in public service. Our paths finally joined at IQC where he became a friend and honoured colleague. I miss Tom simply "dropping in" and engaging in conversation on everything from family to the last developments on innovation in Canada. Those were special occasions.
Please be comforted by the knowledge that his extraordinary wisdom and positive outlook continue, however imperfectly, in the work of all he touched. Farewell and thank you to a great Canadian.

sincere condolences to the family. I joined UW in April 1987 after a few years as a research scientist at CANMET in Ottawa. In my first meeting with Tom in May 1987, I was disappointed to find out that he will be leaving soon to join the Ontario Government . Our paths crossed again when he was President of NSERC and I served on NSERC committees and on functions at the Royal Society. He was a mentor and will be missed.

I extend my deepest sympathies to Louise and the Brzustowski family. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
I first met Tom when he served as a member of one of the NSERC fellowships selection committees that I administered. Later, when he became NSERC president, I remember being thrilled that not only did the world have a Polish pope at the time, but now NSERC had a Polish Canadian as its leader.
Tom was well liked and respected by his staff. His knowledge, extensive experience and leadership abilities benefited NSERC and the scientific and engineering community that he served. He will be sadly missed but his legacy will live on.

I was so very sad to hear of Professor Brzustowski's passing. I first met Tom in the hallway of the Vanier Building on his first official day at uOttawa. He was wandering, looking for office supplies. He joked that at his last job (at NSERC), things just showed up on his desk. I was very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Tom on many projects and events during his time at Telfer. He was a kind and warm person who made me smile whenever our paths crossed. My condolences to his family.

Long time friends from our bachelor days at the University of Waterloo, we spent many evenings watching hockey in my apartment till Louise arrived in the picture. Tom was very patient and drove me to and from the University every day, since our apartments were next to each other. I drove to their wedding in Montreal but missed the ceremony because of a snowstorm and was able to join in the celebrations afterwards.
Tom has had a very successful career and was admired and respected by many. He was very good to his graduate students who adored him. My friendship with Tom has lasted over fifty five years and it is very hard to lose such a long-standing friend. He has lived a good life and was blessed with an adorable wife and three sons.
I will miss you Tom. Rest in peace.

Dear Louise,
I send my deepest condolences to you and your family at this difficult moment. As you put it so well, “Tom was loved by many, respected by all, and will be sadly missed and fondly remembered.” I had the privilege of knowing Tom and having him as a mentor and friend. He has had a great impact on my own life, as he has had on so many people. A generous, wise and courageous leader, his contributions have also helped shape our country. He is leaving a legacy that will always be highly respected and remembered.

My condolences on your loss. I recall Tom as a brilliant scholar, a warm human being, and a wonderful friend. He and I would have conversations on the 6th floor in the hallway at Desmarais about measuring innovation performance...just informal chats that left me with the image of a quintessential professor: dedicated to his work, great sense of humour, personable and always open for a discussion. I will remember him fondly.
Best Regards

I'm so sorry to hear that Tom is gone. I first met him in the mid-70s when he taught Thermodynamics to our Systems Design Engineering class at the University of Waterloo. We were an unruly bunch, but Tom soon brought us to heel, gently but firmly. Years later he served on my PhD examination committee while VP at UW, making time in his busy schedule to see me about my thesis, and offering many helpful suggestions. As a professor at Carleton University I would run into him from time to time at events he attended in his capacity as the head of NSERC, and he would always make time for a short chat, having never forgotten that student from so long ago. A truly wise and humane man. My condolences to the family.

My condolences to the family. Prof. B. Was one of my favourite profs in the early 70s. He sparked an interest and I still use what he taught with so much enthusiasm. How much will a heat pump save me in $ & CO2? And at work, how to cool a classroom sized instrument efficiently? I was so pleased he became NSERC chair, and then again when he got a snowflake lapel pin.

Our deepest sympathy to Louise, John, Marc and Paul and to the grandchildren for the death of a very special man Tom Brzustowski.
It was with sadness that I and my wife Yvonne learned of Tom's death last June 19th.
I had my best working years with Tom at the President's Office of NSERC from 1999 to 2006. Tom was not only my boss but to me one of my best friends. We had great talks and laughs while I was driving Tom to meetings outside Ottawa.
Yvonne and I enjoyed those few times at Tom and Louise's house on special occasions. Louise's food was so good and well presented
Thank you, Tom, for those seven wonderful years, I will remember this for the rest of my life.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you Louise and your wonderful family.

I am sorry to hear of the passing of such a truly wonderful person. Although I have not seen Tom since our years working together at Queen’s Park, I have never stopped appreciating the sheer pleasure it was to have him as my Deputy Minister when I was Minister of Colleges and Universities. Always gracious, knowledgeable, thoughtful and willing to understand different perspectives, he was respected by everyone he worked with and was both a valued colleague and a strong leader. But perhaps my fondest memory is when, as I was moving into the Ministry of Energy, Tom took it upon himself to give this Arts and Social Sciences grad a lesson in the basic physics of energy production - I can still hear him articulating, with characteristic patience, the essential principles that he felt I needed to grasp! It is a measure of the support he was ever ready to provide.

We have such wonderful memories of many dinners and evenings in both BC and Ontario spent in conversation about a wide array of topics spanning family (first and foremost!), science, politics, the economy, leadership, books and music, and more. Tom's endless repertoire of anecdotes, jokes and recollections leavened every encounter. We will miss a very dear friend and we will will cherish our warm and wonderful memories of him.
