Sincere sympathy to all of John's family. I was privileged to know both John and Mary for many years, dating back to our work together for The Lung Association - Waterloo Region. John was a long-time President of the Board of Directors of the organization (originally TB & Respiratory Disease Association) and provided outstanding and exemplary leadership. Mary for many years coordinated hundreds of volunteers to work on the annual Christmas Seal Campaign. Together John and Mary were a supportive pair - serious about the responsibilities they gladly took on to make our communities a better place, yet delighting in their family and those around then. .The year and month was June 1967. I attended my first waterloo junior band practice above the waterloo music company building. I wanted to learn the drums. John could see that I really had that desire to learn and he would stay with me after practice and teach me snare drum.Eventually I left the junior band and bought a drum kit when I was still in high school. I am still drumming as of today and I think fondly of John taking the time to see the desire in me and teaching me drums. I phoned him up a few years ago on his birthday and thanked him for giving me that passion that I still have today. He still remembered me after all these years and seemed pleased that I took the time to phone him. Thanks for taking the time to teach me drums John. You will be in Heaven making music. Mr. Conrad was my music teacher at Eastwood Collegiate and was one of my favourite teachers! He made learning FUN and always made sure to be fair and understanding with all his students....even the ones that didn’t quite have a musical talent. He put together incredible musicals at ECI that showcased the talents of many students who went on to have great careers in the arts. Always a smile and a hello when you walked down the halls. On behalf of the Fritz family our heartfelt condolences to the Conrad children. Our parents, Bob and Doretta were lifelong friends of John and Mary, godparents to two of their children Tom and Marg and dad was best man at their wedding. Mr. Conrad's love of music was evident and he always encouraged the young to learn and just enjoy whatever instrument they chose. The music in heaven must be spectacular now that your dad has arrived and is reunited with your mom. Wishing you peace to bring comfort, courage to face the days ahead and loving memories to forever hold in your heart.

Mr. Conrad was my music teacher and concert band conductor at Eastwood Collegiate from 1976 to 1981. He was an incredibly patient and caring man that showed his students how to put your heart into your work. He will be missed. Dave Wilkinson
