Mom,
There are so many things I wish I could have communicated to you over the past few years, but as a mom, I’d like to believe you knew them without actually hearing the words I will now use to share them with others.
When I think back on my childhood, so many fond memories stand out for me. And to this day those memories all centre around feeling unconditionally supported and loved for being exactly who I am. While you shared your passions and talents with your children, you fully supported us in choosing our own life paths. You respected our choices, and encouraged us to do what we enjoyed.
Some of my best memories? Baking our favourite recipes from the well-worn Better Homes and Gardens cookbook, that of course had your notations in the margins. Dancing to the Boney M Christmas album. You were a true master of the three Rs long before it was cool or socially expected. After we moved to BC, you would send us care packages filled with coupons and recipes you thought we’d enjoy. Several times a month, you would email us recipes and health related articles you had read and typed out by hand. When you came to visit you would bring us special treats like your Christmas cake and undoubtedly some new Tupperware.
Mom, you were a woman of great artistic talents that you were always happy to share. You had a knack for fixing things, and an overall craftiness, but your sewing talent was truly unprecedented. You made impeccable clothing for yourself and your family. You created a beautiful prom dress for me after simply seeing what I liked in a store, and after Grandma Voisin’s quilt wore out you made us a new one that I still treasure to this day.
While I, unfortunately, did not inherit your artistic talents- your attention to detail, work ethic, kindness and willingness to help others are all deeply ingrained in me and have helped make me the person I am today. These qualities make me proud to be your daughter. And they are certainly not all I inherited from you... I also have your love of bread with LOTS of butter, black licorice, and hard toffee, and best of all - a unique and infectious laugh which people can identify me by from another room.
While a great deal changed as your FTD progressed, it also showed us the true heart of who you were, mom. It showed us your determination and your dedication; it showed us that at the very core of her being, our mom was a kind, happy and open hearted person. And it showed us that it is not embarrassing, but simply polite, to wave and shout “yoo-hoo” to a stranger across the street who might just be your neighbour.
I miss you and your beautiful smile already, mom.

Mom, you were an extremely kind and generous person. As far back as I can remember, you were constantly helping others and giving things away, even if it meant you had to go without. Dementia took away your memory, but it could not take away your kindness and generosity. Right up until the end, you would always smile and say hi to strangers you met, and share your daily snacks with visitors to the house.
You were a very hard worker, I hardly ever saw you sit down to relax. You were constantly doing things for the family, going for walks, or working on your sewing and cross-stitch. You would even stand at the counter to do your word searches, so that you could walk in place at the same time.
I am very lucky to have had such a kind, generous and hard working mother.
Rest In Peace Mom,
I love you!
Lance

Eulogy from her loving daughter, Linda.
Things I learned from my Mom:
You can NEVER have too much Tupperware.
Mom hosted several Tupperware parties over the years, so we’ve always had an abundance. She had just about any size or shape you could imagine, in an amazing range of colours. I think my favourite is the brown/orange/yellow/green autumn-coloured collection from the 1970’s.
A love of baking.
Anyone who was lucky enough to have any of Mom’s baked goods could taste the love she put into it (or maybe that was the butter!). I always enjoyed baking with Mom, and I still make her delicious recipe for apple crisp.
I will especially miss her pecan pie with it’s all-butter pastry crust and over-abundance of pecans, as well as her brandy-soaked Christmas cake.
The exceptional taste of fresh-grown produce.
Mom worked many hours in the garden to provide us with fresh vegetables. She would blanche and freeze peas and beans, and filled the cold cellar shelves with jars of pickles, beets, tomato sauce and jam.
The importance of fun and laughter in life.
Mom taught me how to use a hula-hoop, and how to twirl and catch a baton. (But she never did teach me how to play her accordion.) She loved to dance and sing along to her favourite Christmas album by Boney M.
An appreciation for hand-made, quality craftsmanship.
I remember frequent trips to the fabric store with Mom, to pick out patterns and fabric for the many outfits she sewed for herself and the family. I especially loved helping her to choose buttons. Sometimes we would buy buttons just because we loved them, even though they did not yet have an outfit to go on.
The clothing she made had impeccable stitching. She had such patience and incredible attention to detail. If a seam wasn’t perfect, she would take out the stitches and do it again until it was.
The knowledge that hard work will allow me to achieve great things.
Even before we were school-aged, Mom would give us lessons at our desks in a room in the basement of the house. She taught us reading, writing and math, years before it was introduced to us in school. I credit my many scholastic achievements to this early start that Mom provided.
And the most important thing that I learned from my Mom:
By her example, how to be a kindhearted, generous, loving person.
She was all these things and more. I could not have had a better mother.
I love you, Mom, and will miss you beyond words.

Uncle Donnie and Family,
My heart is sad for your loss. Another angel is peacefully flying in heaven.
God didn't promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, sun without rain, but
He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears and a light for the way.
Take comfort in knowing Aunt Veronica has followed her light and is in the arms of the Lord.
May He bless you and give you strength in your time of sorrow.
Cindy

Dear Donald and family,
Please accept my sincere sympathy at the passing of Veronica. I remember her well from my visits to St. Michael's Rectory many years ago, when she was the cheerful and engaging Secretary. Those are happy memories. I will pray for her eternal rest with the Lord she followed faithfully, and for all of you - that you may have consolation and peace knowing that Veronica is at peace with God. God bless you all!
