Ruth Hallman, beloved wife of Lee Hallman, passed away peacefully, at St Mary’s General Hospital, Kitchener, on Sunday, December 13, 2020 at the age of 90 years.
Cherished mother of Carolee (Dana) Fox of Waterloo, Loree (Tom) Abbott of Waterloo and Jayne (Tim) McCullough of London. Loving grandmother to Erin, Jordan (Jeyda), Kelsey (Adam), Taylor, Chris, Maggie, and Ally.
Ruth is predeceased by her parents Fred and Stella (nee Cobo) Weltz and her sister Eileen (Bob) Bowman.
Ruth worked for the bank after completing highschool. After that she married and was a homemaker and had three daughters. She taught as a teaching assistant for W.R.D.S.B for many years. She had wonderful skills for teaching children with special needs.
Music was a priority for Ruth. She completed her grade eight Royal Conservatory certificate in vocal. In early years she belonged to the K-W Operatic Society. She was often cast as lead singer in musical productions like the Maid of the Mountain!
Ruth loved her church. As a young girl she belonged to St. Matthews Lutheran church in Kitchener. She attended with her parents and sister and was in the youth group and choir. She sang with her sister Eileen and together they performed at weddings and special events.
Did you know that Ruth was once crowned the Queen of the Furrow for the International Plowing Match in 1954? She really was a beautiful lady.
Later she married Lee and together they attended Calvary United Church. She was very active in Calvary’s choir, she belonged to UCW and taught Sunday school. Both she and Lee were members of the True Friends group at Calvary and they cherished their time with their church friends. They raised their three daughters in the church too.
Ruth belonged to many clubs and loved to play bridge. She enjoyed aquafit at Breithaupt Center with Lee and her girl friends. The favourite place to holiday for Ruth and Lee was in Southampton. Both she and Lee were avid tennis players and bridge players. They bought a cottage and together enjoyed many summers with good friends and especially their family!
Finally, Ruth was everybody’s Grandma Hallman. She loved her grandchildren. She spent many hours babysitting and planning special events. Christmas was always a big deal in the Hallman family. Grandpa Hallman would write poems and Grandma would cook wonderful meals. There were always special table gifts for everyone and thoughtful presents. Birthdays were always celebrated either in Southampton or in their home on Weston Place. Ruth’s biggest devotion was to her family. Almost every day for the last couple of years she would say “my family is the most important thing to me”
Way you go Ruth - Grandpa Hallman is waiting at the tennis courts for a little mixed doubles game. The bridge table is set up for you and dad and Aunt Helen and Uncle Morley too. Special mention to Uncle Ken and Aunt Nancy for their support to Grandma Hallman in the years she was alone.
Many thanks to John Lougheed for helping guide us through these difficult times. Thank you to Erb and Good Funeral Home, Waterloo Heights, and Calvary Church. Mostly thank you to all of our friends and relatives for their love and support!
