Doug has had a profound influence here in KW, and beyond as well. As regular attenders in the Wednesday concerts, we felt embraced by Doug's personal warmth, musical interests, many musical friends and St. Andrew's itself. We feel a warm kinship with the St. Andrew's community as a result. His modelling of caring for others in many ways, particularly in encouraging people to develop their abilities and use their opportunities wisely, leaves sa lasting impression. So glad to have gotten to know him and he will be remembered with respect and fondness.

Dear Sheryl, Christopher, Annette and extended Family,
We are so sorry for your loss with the passing of Douglas. Your loss is shared by many others like ourselves who have known Doug through music at St. Andrew's. Our connection was with choirs and accompaniment for Ecumenical Prayer Services with Taizé songs.
Quietly and softly may God's Love and Peace touch your hearts and whisper messages of Joy and Hope for each of you during these coming days, weeks and months. Doug will be missed yet remembered for his gentleness and many musical talents. With our love and prayers,

I have 3 memories of Douglas...
He lived around the corner from us on Hillsborough Cres. when l was a child.
Later on in senior public school, we had a music field trip to St. Andrews & he chose me out of the crowd to page turn for him, much to the chagrin of my class mates who didn’t realize l was probably the most reliable candidate in the crowd to accomplish the honour as he knew my mother was a musician also!
But the best memory was when I was still a fledgling soprano at WLU and he was my repertoire accompanist pointing me to great music ...
I went on to serve as a professional soprano in the church, in the US for the prime of my career...
Thank you, Douglas for your kindness and positive support...

Doug was a leader in our wonderful K-W musical community. He gave me opportunities to perform with orchestra and combined choirs. Doug provided organ lessons to our daughter, Jennifer, who has since become Head of Music at her high school. I remember, fondly, the beautiful sounds that he created at the organ. My thoughts are with Sheryl and other family during these times of trial.
In appreciation,
Brian

Doug was my first organ teacher, and we connected through our mutual teacher-friend Dr. Glenn Kruspe. Doug was responsible for inspiring and encouraging me to pursue church music as a profession and career, and was always there for me when I needed relevant help or advice over the past 40 years! Indeed, I can safely say, that had Douglas not taught me, I would never have considered church music as a profession! He was my inspiration and role model and I can't even begin to say what a hole his passing has left in my life. Death is not the end, but only another step in the great journey we are all traveling on in this great universe we live in. Farewell dear friend and mentor. My most heartfelt condolences to Sheryl, Christopher and Annette.

Douglas' story was an inspiration to me. His talent and commitment recognized at an early age, he was asked to study in Italy. At a time when to travel and study internationally was a rare thing my older cousin Doug showed that the world held promise and opportunity for those who would recognize it and welcome it.
My memories of Doug were on his return to Canada - his generosity of spirit ,kindness, his artistry and passion for the music he pursued.
As an Elder his continued dedication to his craft and role provided another kind of inspiration, that of being a contributing member of the community.
Our condolences go out to Sheryl and his children, Annette and Chris.
