It was with great sadness that Helga and I learned of Norm's passing.
He was a great civil engineer. His attention to detail seemed unlimited and his ability to sketch his ideas and designs were second to none.
I had the pleasure to work with Norm since 1979 on many major projects in the Pulp and Paper sector. He was always kind, caring, supportive, hard working, as well as devoted to his work and to his colleagues.
Over the years Norm and I developed a close bond and kept in regular contact.
His love of historic buildings and architecture was infectious.
He took me under his wing early in my engineering career and I am forever in his debt. He taught me the most important qualities of engineering. He was a great mentor and a great friend whom I could always count on.
Nora, Helga and I spent many of our happiest moments with you and Norm especially at his beloved cottage in Grand Bend, the MayFlower.
I will cherish forever the book of sketches he put together on the History of Mont St Michel which he gave to me some years ago.
We will plant a tree in his memory this Spring close to the two trees he had given me as seedlings back in 1983.
We will greatly miss him, especially his unique humour.
