I only just learned of Carlaine's passing (while attending a high school reunion), and it is an understatement to say that I am heartbroken. It seemed like we were destined to be friends forever. We met at age 10. Our fathers were colleagues at the University, and even had adjacent offices. Teachers would pair us up for projects in grade school. We had odd random similarities such as left handedness and matching crowns on our left front teeth. When I was in University, a work term had me knocking on doors in Toronto, and yes, one of them was answered by Carlaine. What are the odds? We certainly had a 'real world' relationship, at times through the decades we were quite close and at other times it could be rather bumpy. But we always seemed to get together again, and it is difficult to accept that that will no longer be the case. Farewell, Carlaine.

Carlaine was probably one of the most unique people I have met. I was introduced to her at a mutual friend's and as I looked up saw this stunning beauty who became part of our circle of friends. Our friendship waxed and waned through the decades as jobs, cities and circumstances varied.
Her intelligence and sometimes "over the ramparts and take no prisoners!" attitude would often burst through otherwise mundane conversations we had and could leave me with the feeling that I didn't quite know what hit me but I would surely spend an hour or more trying to figure out how my logic got left behind in the dust! We shared a dry, cynical and cock-eyed sense of humour that will be among the things I will miss.
Rest in peace, Carlaine. If anyone deserves that, you do.

Like Rick Clausi, I got to know Carlaine when she worked for Andrew Telegdi. She was a lively and wonderful presence in his office and in Andrew's campaigns. She had a wealth of knowledge and a commitment to help. Her generosity, enthusiasm, and presence will be greatly missed. John English

My favorite memory goes back to when I went to Integrated Studies in 1979. I went to a boy's school which narrowed down the likelihood of meeting girls who were flat out intellectual. When I met Carlaine and Glendy I felt like I was having an out of body experience. I kept on having to circle back to make sure of what I was seeing. Turns out it was real and stayed real all the way to the end. God Bless, Carlaine.

Carlaine spent time on Parliament Hill and Waterloo working as an office assistant to MP Andrew Telegdi. She was a dedicated and energetic worker with a super sense of humour and good political insights. We are very sad to hear of her passing.
