Dear Hildegard ❣ You were always my dearest older cousin! I looked up to you. I loved your spunk and joy for life, even your outspoken ways. I will always remember when l was 7 years old, l asked my Mom why you had such a big belly (you were pregnant), and my Mom answered, you had eaten too many potatoes!! When Mom and l travelled to Alsace in 1979, for our Aunt Anna's 50th wedding anniversary, l felt so alone in a strange place, until you arrived a couple of days later. I felt so happy to see you! We were companions when we travelled to Germany to see other relatives! I wish l could have visited you more often at the residence ❣. We did talk on the phone and so often, you would start talking in German, me trying hard to remember my German (not very well). I miss you very much! I know you are in a better place now, filling the place with joy and laughter!
Our sincere condolences to all the family. Much love to you all.❤️

Hi Rob and Cathy, I just wanted to let you know that just thinking about Hilde always brings a smile to my face. She was larger than life! She embraced life and enjoyed it! Not a bad idea!! It is such a shame that it was not possible for everyone to get together, looking forward to when we can! We hope that you are beginning to adjust, it must be difficult. We are all thinking about you.
Love Martina, Chris, Ansel and Thomas

The joyful essence of our beloved Hilde remained intact even when other things were lost due to her long term illness. Her zest for life, food, singing, dancing and laughing (she had the best laugh ever!), will remain in our hearts and memories. We will miss her so much. Hope she is dancing a polka in heaven. Love you girl.

May Hilde rest in peace. It is hard to say fair well, for her vibrant soul lives within our hearts. Her tempting delicious treats, feisty caring nature was always enjoyed and valued. Cherished memories are many for cousin Fritzle and family like the time she saved Fritzle many years ago as they were on their way to the Kappelberg during an alarm. Fritzle fell out of the carriage, Hilde picked him up and ran with him to safety, for that we will be eternally grateful.

Oh my Hilde, I loved her so so much! She never was a “challenge “ for me....rather an opportunity to get to know her soul. Yes she was feisty but honestly chasing her around our garden in Eby as she “Judicially “ pruned our flowers ;took off her hat and made a beautiful flower arrangement was exhilarating!! Or perhaps the time we danced around Eby, or the time she told me my Apple strudel was awful .... it really was...although I am Rec team member..I never claimed to be a baker! Hilde had spunk! She kissed me ,spun me around under her arms, laughed and most certainly was truly inquisitive...as I had chocolate and MANY cool craft supplies that attracted her to my office! I more than loved her I adored her! I saw a lot of myself in her. Bless her dear soul! Watch out God Hilde is in the house! She will make heaven more beautiful and dance her way from cloud to cloud. When you hear thunder and see a flash of lightning...guess who is sending you a sign....but wait for it there is more in true Hilde style...when the roaring thunder stops and the flashes of lightning disappears with the rain , Hilde will be painting you a beautiful rainbow....Sending love to all the family. Hildegard will not be forgotten!

Dear Cathy, Rob, Sarah, Julia, and Ellie, sincere condolences on the loss of your Mother and Oma. Hilde was one of a kind! My favourite memories of her are from our time spent together at Big lake. I knew her as a loyal friend. and neighbour. She had the most amazing laugh! She was fun to be around. I was blessed to know her.
Our family has made a donation to the Alzheimer's Society in her memory

Thank you Oma for all the wonderful memories - magical Christmas eves spent at your house, surprising us after school with your delicious German baking, trips to the “Movie House”, adrenaline inducing (German translation: schnell) car rides in KW, and your musical performances during our visits at Winston Park. Your quick wit, accompanied with nearly imperceptible winks, always kept us on our toes. Whenever I hear a smoke detector go off in a kitchen, see a sappy birthday card, taste German food, or hear an Oktoberfest song, I think of you. Xoxo

Auf Wiedersehen to my dearest Oma, who truly embodied what it was to be a German grandma - proudest cheerleader, Oktoberfest dancing partner (whether you wanted one or not), A+ cheesecake baker, giver of great hugs, and always with a sassy joke up her sleeve (or in Oma's case, one of her fancy hats). Thankful for the lifetime of memories she's left us with, and that Wilde spirit that stayed with her until the very end (of course, as Oma would say). We will miss you very much. She'll be coming round the mountain when she comes - toot toot!

When I think of Mrs. Silcher there are so many memories that come to mind but a few certainly stand out: a "Wilde Hilde" ride to the market to pick up German salami, shopping for "specials" all around town, the smell of delicious cooking & baking filling the house, Sunday dinners where the consequences of overindulging in bread dumplings was never learned, the regular shock that I didn't want gravy, the days of planning and food prep that went into a birthday dinner party only to have the prime rib dropped on the floor moments before serving (not mentioning any names Rob), and the repeated lesson this Irish girl needed from a German woman on how to peel a potato properly without "wasting the potato." :) Thanks for the laughter and the lessons. With much love and fond memories, Jen xo

Although I never met Hilde, I've heard many stories about all the joy she sparked in others' lives. She lives on in all the lives she touched. She will truly be missed!

To “Wilde Hilde”: You brought much joy and amusement to your family over the years, whether it have been with your delicious German cooking and baking, showing off your singing and dancing skills, or watching you argue your way out of any situation. Your kind and fiery spirit will forever remain in our hearts. We miss you. Love "Your Fussy Irish Family"
