Obituary of Dr. James Harold Swann
SWANN, Dr. James Harold
James Harold Swann was an inspiration to those who knew him, defined by his passion, humanity, intellect and curiosity. A devoted husband for 50 years to Sandy Haight Swann, father to Christopher (Marie-Eve), Cameron, Craig (Leah) and Courtney (Elena) and “Gramps” to Xavier, Olivia, Jack, Edouard and Simon. Loving son of Pat and Ian Swann. Jim passed away peacefully on April 24, 2021 surroundedby his family.
Professionally, Jim was top of his class at Queen’s Medical school in 1972. He held Canadian and American fellowships in Emergency Medicine, and he served the community providing urgent care services for over 18 years. He was the president of the Kitchener Academy of Medicine, and a Vice President with Johnson & Johnson at McNeil Consumer Products company in Guelph, Ontario.
Jim’s philosophy was to live unabashedly, so that when the full glass of life is turned over, there would be not a drop left. His curiosity, passion, and sense of humor fueled his exceptional journey. Jim exemplified humanity and compassion that both inspired and honored those he encountered every day. Jim was an avid sportsman: a marathoner, hiker, skier, cyclist, golfer, swimmer and pilot. He appreciated the natural world, day to day in his garden, and over his life by travelling to all corners of the world. Most of all, Jim cherished home in Waterloo (ON) and Bonita Bay(FL). No matter from where you came, your encounter with Jim would leave you with a sense of genuine connection and endearment, and an appreciation for his attention and sincerity. His love, humanity and respect for others will forever leave an indelible mark on those he met. His presence will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
Condolences and messages for the family are greatly appreciated. Donations can be made to the Grand River Regional Cancer Center, and can be arranged through the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street S., Waterloo at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445. A celebration of his life is being planned.
