Belated though my words be, it does not diminish the sadness I feel for the loss of a very special individual. My deepest sympathies go out to Cathie, their children and all who had the pleasure of knowing Mike. I knew Mike from the earliest days of the Out of the Cold Program and our work together on this community-wide initiative lasted 15 years. Mike worked tirelessly on behalf of the marginalized and oft forgotten individuals in our community. He is to be commended for his service to humanity. He shall be missed. May God give his family and friends peace and comfort and may the memories of his life of faith and service sustain and enrich them forever. Dennis Watson

Hi Catherine,
Although I was not surprised when I heard from Bonnie about Michael's death, I still felt a deep sense of loss. We have lost this side of glory a role model for all of us who seek, however, falteringly, to follow that radical peasant Galilean who continues to "comfort the afflicted" while "afflicting the comfortable." It delights me that no skyscraper monument or architecture of note will bear his name. That is reserved for the CAESARS of our day, among the rich & powerful who trip & become obsequious in seeking their favor. Instead the monuments my dear friend and brother Mike leaves will be long remembered as one who sought our the "homeless", providing these harrasaed sisters and brothers secure places to live & rest. As a follower of the "Son of Man... who had nowhere to lie his head, Mike & his partner Cathie refused to rest until all "out of the cold" folk could find safe rest.
Before COVID-19 hit the scene I remember so fondly our coffees, our "demos" together & our pushing our local political folk, especially at your UCC Church by Waterloo Square.
Thank you, dear friend and brother. You may be gone from among us, but you will NEVER be forgotten,
Oz.

I worked with him and he was a great guy. I remember the story of the two Mikes he shared. He wouldn't let me refer to myself as "just the intern" at the DHR meetings and I held him in high esteem. I wish him rest, but I know if there is any sort of activism wing in heaven, he's already introduced a project.
