I was also a student at Franklin with Mr. Sacharow. While I wasn't in his class, I did have the pleasure of having him as a teacher for parts of subject areas. You knew he was a teacher who cared about all his kids, and he had the coolest car of all teachers. He made sure he knew all the students during recess and always made time to talk. I was fortunate enough some 20 yrs later to be a new teacher at Courtland when he was there. I remember walking in to his room and saying, "Hey, Mr. Sacharow, remember me?" He looked up, smiled and simply said, "Schlegel, do you still chew your nails?" It's impossible to forget a person who never forgot his students. My condolences to the family. He will be missed but never forgotten.

Mr Sacharow taught me at Franklin in, if I recall, 1979/1980. He stands to this day as my favourite teacher of all time. In the obituary, it mentioned "adding to his extensive record collection". I remember Mr. Sacharow handwriting me a list of important albums to listen to. I might even still have that list stored away in some file folder. His imparting of knowledge went beyond what was in the curriculum. As well, I will never forget the Triumph TR7 he drove to school - it just added to his personal style. For a little while, I would go back and visit him after graduating from Franklin. I regret now that those visits tapered off. May his family and friends accept my deepest condolences.

Mr. Sacharow was my teacher in Grade 5 and Grade 6 at Franklin Public School in the early 80's. He was my first experience with a "COOL" teacher. He was the first teacher I ever had that wore jeans (with a dress shirt and tie of course) and he drove a cool little sports car. He was a tough teacher who expected a lot but also gave a lot to his students too outside of the regular curriculum. I was in his class when John Lennon was killed and when Reagan was shot. He took the time to talk to us about current world events and history and impact of such events that most other teachers of that time didn't teach and allowed us to form/voice opinions and thoughts on any topic of discussion. He taught us of his parents heritage and their journey. So many other teachers of that time still taught at you instead of allowing you to learn. I was an A student but some of the best history/world events lessons I ever learned were in those two years. Rest in peace sir....you were an incredible teacher and way ahead of your time.

Cara and family, I am so sad to hear of Peter’s passing. He was so wonderful with all of the kids in your class at Sandhills. Emily and Kristen spoke so fondly of Mr S and all of the fun things he would teach them. The girls loved that he read interesting articles to them from the newspaper each morning, and all of the great math lessons. I remember coming to the classroom one day and Peter was sitting on the floor with Emily teaching her how to play cards. Big hugs to you and your family Cara; I am so sorry for your terrible loss.

To the whole family, please accept my deepest condolences. Mr. Sacharow was my teacher for grades 5 and 6 at Franklin Public School. He was a favourite of mine and my friends. He had a cool car and he was an obvious fan of music, which he spoke about with us and the class. You could tell that he genuinely wanted his students to learn and grow and he spoke to us like he respected us. May the whole family find peace.
