To say that Bob was loved at work, would be an understatement.
I was lucky to work with him for about two decades. He was a gentle soul who brightened our days.
I remember well his retirement count down calendar. He liked to rub that in, as I was far behind.
Once he retired, he took the time to send me the calendar with a minus sign beside the days he had left :) Oh … Bob !!! Still rubbing it in.
I send me deepest condolences to Bob’s family, friends and Scouting family. I know a huge void has been left.
He will truly be missed.
Carolyn

I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Bob at Manulife for many years. He was my lunch buddy for about the last 15 years. We shared many lunches, walks and conversations. Bob loved to torment me with his smelly salmon sandwiches and stinky malt vinegar on his fish and chips. My day usually got brighter after lunching with Bob. He was a great listener and often made me laugh.
I also saw him at many Kitchener Rangers games. We could see Bob’s seat from ours and we often bumped into him making his rounds at the Aud. I looked forward to seeing him there since his retirement.
Bob was a good friend. I will miss him a lot.

My deepest sympathies to your family. I was a cub leader with the 38th Kitchener Scout Group with Bob and a fellow Gilwellian. The words spoken yesterday truly captured the man Bob was "Servanthood". I was blessed to call Bob a friend. Mary Ann Millar

Dianne and I would like to express our sympathy to you all. We met Bob at Dominion Life, and used to enjoy watching him play goalie for the Dominion Life/Manulife Hockey Team. Often we would go out to dinner at Mother's Pizza or the Tien Hoa restaurants after the games.

I am very sorry to hear the sad news. My deepest sympathies.
I have known Bob for over 30 years starting with playing on the same floor hockey team. On 1990 I joined Manulife and was fortunate to end up on the same “Workstation” application team. I worked with Bob on other software applications. Bob was very intelligent and extremely kind.
We went outside for a walk weather permitting for a break many times. We also went to the Mandarin for lunch whenever we could. I was fortunate to spend a lot of time with Bob.
I would tease him whenever the Montreal Canadians lost but we did share the same dislike for the Toronto Maple Leafs. We would always joke about that.
I went to visit Bob in the hospital, he was always so brave and kind. When Covid hit we no longer met in person but talked on the phone frequently.
I miss Bob very much.

Deeply sorry to hear about Bob's passing. I had the pleasure of working with Bob as part of the LOGOS team at Knox Waterloo. The children at LOGOS had so much fun with him as their leader. He knew how to reach kids with his patience and light humour. When we moved to online sessions, he created slide shows for each gathering with the young children so that they would remember the fun they had at LOGOS with each other. Chef Robert taught grade 1 to 5 kids how to make pancakes and had his kitchen set up with multiple cameras so that the kids would see how it all worked.
Bob set up our registration for LOGOS online, created our COVID screening and made it all seem so easy. I miss Bob and he will be missed at LOGOS this year! His legacy lives on in the fun routines he set up with the kids and the systems he set up for LOGOS and Sunday School.

My deepest sympathy to Bob’s family. I had the pleasure to know Bob through Knox Church and our Logos Community. He loved being with the children and the children at Logos loved him. He was a kind and gentle man with a great spirit. He always came to Logos dressed for the theme for the week and the children rushed to his table each week. We offered each other encouragement through regular phone calls as we both were dealing with cancer. I am so sad and sorry to lose my friend. Unfortunately I won’t be able to attend the visitation or service due to health issues but will watch it on line. I pray for peace and strength for his family at this most difficult time. Sincerely Wendy Garner

So very sorry to hear of Bob's passing. He was co-worker to my late husband George Lenio through the Dominion Life/Manulife days for 37 years. He and George shared many a chuckle over the years. Bob was a part of our little Poker club and they actually allowed Carol and I to join the table. Of course we beat them. Also had the pleasure of bowling, curling and slow pitch with Bob always up for a game. So sorry to hear of his battle with cancer. Bob today have reached out to some of the Dominion Life and Manulife friends . I thank you for that. It's an been an honour knowing you. Rest in Peace, I am sure George is waiting at the Euchre Table in heaven. Mary Anne Lenio

Deepest sympathies to the entire Thorn family.
Bob and I interacted primarily through Scouting. I was always impressed by his calm, peaceful and caring demeanour whether at a rambunctious Beaveree or in a quiet small group setting. I also have great memories of burning the midnight oil at Gilwell reunions as we prepared daily editions of the ‘Log and Beads’ newsletter.
Bob was an active and vital member of North Waterloo’s Gilwell Troop and will be sorely missed.
RIP, my friend.
YiS,
Scott Davis
