I knew Margaret Binek as a member of the Board of Focus for Ethnic Women. She was compassionate and always willing to help. Whenever we needed legal counsel or a lawyer's opinion, we knew we could rely on Margaret. Professionally I had called her once to see her with a patient I knew at my place of work. She came immediately, understood the patient's situation and asked me how she could be of help. Such was Margaret! Always wanting to know ways in which she could be of assistance.
RIP Margaret

Margaret Binek was a charter member of Focus for Ethnic Women (FEW), an organization I started in 1987 to help meet the needs of immigrant and visible minority women in Waterloo Region. As a board member and President, Margaret shared her expertise without reservation. She was very gentle with everyone, especially the trainees who would approach her with their immigration issues without any fear. She had a very pleasant smile which I always admired. I will miss her dearly.

It's hard to say goodbye to someone as special as my dear Mrs. Binek. She was not only my boss of 15 years, but an unconditional friend for 33 years. Her authenticity and love were her guiding force. Her absence has been felt deep down in my soul. While working for and with Mrs. Binek in her immigration practice, I learned that the best stories are grounded in principles and purposes that are timeless, and certainly bigger than we are. Mrs. Binek lived a story that will last an eternity. Thank you, Mrs. Binek, for making such an impact in my life and making it rich with love, friendship, and your caring and compassionate nature. I know you are in a better place now, beside your beloved John, but I still miss you terribly. Rest in peace, my dear friend.

Margaret and I have shared many similar events over the years. We both lived in Montreal before moving to Kitchener/Waterloo. We both graduated from Marianopolis College, she in '63 and I in '61. We both shared an interest in education and the visual and performing arts. As well we both served as presidents of the Kitchener Waterloo C.F.U.W. We also both lost our soulmates, she her John in 2019 and I, my Bill this year.
I was so sorry to read about Margaret's death and offer my sympathy to her family and friends. Her good works and her smile will be long remembered by those whom her life has touched.
