Dear Fern,
I just saw in the online version of The Record that your mother has died. I wanted to pass along my very sincere condolences to you. Your mom was always kind, always had a smile, and always made me and the neighbourhood kids feel welcome.
I have many fond memories of growing up on Talbot Street with you and the Hilgartners and the Lehmannns: playing tippy, waiting for The Record truck so we could deliver the papers, playing hide & go seek, laughing with you as we told stories together on your front porch. Simple, fun times. Your mom and dad often played euchre with my mom and dad on a Saturday night.
My husband and I retired to British Columbia and we don't get back to Ontario too often now. The last time we were there we took a few minutes to drive along our street. There were a few changes, but mostly it looked much the same. As we age, it's good to have memories of our youth that bring a smile to our faces. I hope that the memories you carry with you of your mom will bring you much comfort and bring many smiles to your lips.
