Dear Allan and Cathie
Judy and I send our very deepest sympathy to you at your mother’s passing. We are only sorry that we cannot be in Waterloo for the service.
Your mother was truly a lovely person.
I will always remember that she was so caring and generous a neighbour—and such a good friend--to my mother especially, and when my mother died only her generosity, and daily support, allowed my dad to remain in his house for many years and to live a very full life. The range of things she did to help him—making a point of frequent (weekly, daily?) visits--to cheer him up, volunteering to shop for him at Christmas, and ‘wrap the presents’ (He had a long list!), helping to write letters, arranging for medical appointments, meals-on-wheels, and many other things...indicate the sort of person she was.
This was a wonderfully generous gift—and our family shall never forget her kindness.
It is good to know that you were able to be with her during those last days—and I hope that gives you at least a little comfort.
Judy and I extend our sincerest condolences and hope you can take comfort in a life--so well lived.
Cole
