Robert is my oldest brother in law, Ken's uncle. During a visit to his family up north, Robert took an interest in my future studies. He encouraged me to attend WLU, the university where he was teaching and he and Ruth kindly invited me to live with them and their sons, Peter and Jens. That was the beginning of a friendship that has lasted to this very day.Whenever I have visited their different homes- in Waterloo, Lucknow and Kitchener, I have been welcomed like a long lost daughter. And when I showed up with my son, Robertico, he too was treated like a member of the family. In the past few years, Ken and Lily's daughter, Sharon and I have had many enjoyable visits with Robert and Ruth.
Ruth was a very special friend to me. From the first day of my stay with the Langen family, Ruth became a role model for me, as a loving wife and mother and a caring person to all her friends. I was also impressed by her ability to run a household and still continue with her social responsibilities and creative pursuits. Though Ruth was 20 years my senior, she was like a loving older sister who I could go to in times of joy and times of sadness.I feel blessed that she was in my life and bereft by her passing.
My deepest condolences to Robert, Peter and Jens and their families. May they take comfort in the wonderful memories of their life with dear Ruth.
