Obituary of Ruth Dorothea Langen
Ruth passed away peacefully at A.R. Goudie Eventide Home, Kitchener on Friday, November 26, 2021, at the age of 96, with her husband Robert and sons Peter and Jens at her side. Ruth was born August 2, 1925 in Arnprior Ontario.
Beloved wife of Robert Langen for 71 years. Loving mother of Peter (Rene) Langen of Lion’s Head, and Jens (Karen) Langen of Kitchener. Cherished grandmother of Shawna, Kendra (Paul Dobranski), Anders (Sherry Petty), Torin and Callan (Ayla Legault). Loving great-grandmother to Talia, Kayla, Jaden, and Dylan.
Predeceased by her parents Martin and Martha Oelsner, sister Irene (Mrs. Hugh Colton), and brothers Frank and Manfred.
Ruth was an RN trained at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal and completed her post graduate studies at Alan Memorial Institution (psychiatry) in 1949. She nursed at Arnprior District Hospital, Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto, and K-W Hospital in Kitchener.
She had many hobbies including cooking, knitting, reading (especially Canadian authors), gardening, and pottery with the Waterloo Potters Guild, where she was an active member for many years. Family members feel fortunate to have many of her beautiful creations. Ruth was a warm, caring, and loving person, putting others ahead of herself, and was always busy doing special things for her family. After Robert’s retirement, they moved to their rural home near Lucknow, Ontario. She and Rob entertained many friends there, and provided a beautiful retreat for family, always welcoming with their love and mom’s great cooking and hospitality. She truly enjoyed people of all ages and backgrounds and made everyone feel welcome with her genuine interest, warmth, and infectious laugh. Ruth will be dearly missed as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her cherished memory will live with us forever.
Special thanks and gratitude to the expert staff at the A.R. Goudie LTC Home in Kitchener for all their compassionate care and support for Ruth.
A Celebration of Ruth’s life will be held at a later date.
