Dr. Bill Bryant
March 16, 1940-December 5, 2021
Bill passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side in his 82nd year. Survived by his loving wife Trudy, brothers Bob (Jennifer), Tom (Judie), sisters in law Liz (Bob) and Jane as well as many nieces and nephews. Cherished father of Bill, Allison (Jim) and Adrienne (Nick). Grandchildren Alexa, Liam, Ella, Natalie, Andrew, Charlie and Lauren will miss their dear Puppa.
Born in 1940 in Kirkland Lake, Bill was the son of the late Dr. W.E. Bryant and Francis Crawford. For his final year of high school, Bill attended Pickering College in Newmarket. Following in his father’s footsteps, Bill attended Western Medical School (1964) where he met his wife Trudy, a nursing student. After interning at Toronto Western Hospital, Bill set up his family medical practice in Kitchener Waterloo. Bill was the President of the College of Family Physicians of Canada, Ontario Chapter (1971-72). Bill was instrumental in developing Hopespring, a support centre for cancer patients. Bill has fond memories of serving the community as a cohost on CKCO’s Betty Thompson’s medical morning show. At the age of 62, “Dr. B” retired from family practice to become the physician for the Village of Winston Park.
Bill was passionate about his years spent as a camper at Kitchikewana. He later became the camp doctor for four years. Bill lived life to the fullest. He was a proud member of the adult racing team at Devil’s Glen Country Club. His many passions included squash, hiking, biking around KW and Florida, annual canoe trips and sailing his Hobie Cat on the waters of Lake Erie. Bill was a longtime member of Westmount Golf and Country Club.
After retirement, Bill and Trudy travelled the world and in their later years they spent winters in Florida. Bill and Trudy enjoyed many years together cheering on their grandchildren in their various sports.
The family would like to thank Bill’s longtime friend and colleague Dr. Charlie Irwin as well as Bill’s friend John Lougheed for their guidance and comfort during this difficult time.
Bill was passionate about writing and scrapbooking. In the spring of 2021, he finished his memoir and titled it “It is as it is”. Bill accepted his sudden and unexpected brain tumour diagnosis and he wanted to assure his family and friends that he felt so fortunate to have had such a beautiful, full life. He spent his last few weeks in the comfort of his home, surrounded by family and friends.
