Never have I been as happy to see the beginning of a new month. First my brother John, then my friend Ron Brown and then we close out the month with Eleanor.
Ron and I met in 1968 when we were at college together in Winnipeg. While we were not “bests” during that year, I became a friend of his roommate and so Ron and I crossed paths often. Without going into details, I certainly learned that Ron had a “saintly” quality.
I also learned very quickly that he had a gorgeous tenor voice. He and I both had a love of music and sang in the chamber choir.
We did not stay connected after Winnipeg, at least not for many years. But then, Thom showed up in Winnipeg around the same time that Matthew did. And suddenly, Ron(and Lorna) were back in our lives. What a gift. Our travels would take us through Alberta which would include visits to Didsbury and Olds and their visits to Ontario meant we connected often.
This part of the book has now been written.
Thinking of you, Lorna, and your family, as you navigate your way without Ron, writing the next chapters. I have some new chapters to write as well!
Ron Harder

Very sorry to hear of Ron's passing. Ron was the principal of Reed Ranch School when our daughters were there. When I shared the news of his passing with them it evoked some great memories. I think the one that best illustrates Ron's sense of humour and his strength as an educator was the Halloween he dressed up at Mr. Twit (from the Roald Dahl book) and went the entire day with food in his beard. He definitely made a difference in the lives of this students.

Lorna and family, we are so very saddened by Ron's death. Since our CMBC days we have followed you as you journeyed down sometimes strange and surprising paths. And always, we respected and admired your (plural) love, your courage and your dedication - to each other, to your children and grandchildren, and to "the least among us." We wish you all comfort and peace as you carry on now without Ron's physical presence.

We are shocked and saddened by the news of Ron's passing and extend our deepest condolences to you, Lorna, and your family. I first got to know him just out of High School when we attended Menno Bible Institute, together. Funny, warm and hospitable, courageous, critical thinker, a natural leader and a wonderful tenor voice. We will fondly remember the many connections we had over the intervening years and, especially the time we spent with you and Ron at his (and my) 50th anniversary of our CMBC graduation a little over 2 years ago. May you all experience the Comfort and Peace of our Heavenly Father in the days and months ahead.

Although I hadn’t seen Ron and Lorna for many years, I remember Ron as the kind of guy that I, as a slightly younger CMBC student living in dorm, wanted to emulate. I also enjoyed his pranks and musical energy throughout those years together. All my thoughts and condolences go out to Lorna and the family as you journey through your grief.

My children knew Mr Brown as the principal that taught gym to their kindergarten class! How he could keep up to all that energy is a mystery. And the patience! There were always squeals of glee when I walked past the little gym. Our children were blessed to of had him as a principal. And we were honoured to know Mr Brown. Our deepest condolences.
