Agnes Eby passed away peacefully on March 4, 2022 after a brief illness and “a full and wonderful life”, surrounded by the family she loved.

Born on the family farm in Saskatchewan on February 9, 1926, Agnes moved to Ontario after marrying the love of her life, Milton, in 1953.  She was predeceased by Milton, in 2002, and looked forward to being reunited with him.  Agnes was the much loved mother of Karen Martin and Linda Kruger (Charles), cherished grandmother of Tonya Martin (Tilak Dutta), Jonathan Martin (Sylvia Tran), Nathan Kruger (Morgan Lay), Daniel Kruger (Manjit Grewal) and Matthew Kruger (Casey); Loving “GG” to Avery and Cayden Dutta and her eagerly anticipated first great-granddaughter this spring; sister of Mary Lapp of Kalispell, Montana, Hilda Crawford of Athabasca, Alberta, and sister-in-law of Rosella (Kaufman) Eby of Drake, Saskatchewan.

Agnes was predeceased by her parents Angus Eby and Annie (Good) Eby, sister Eileen Eby, brothers Lloyd (Jean), Claire and Edgar (Hildegarde), and brothers-in-law Wayne Lapp and Allen Crawford.

Agnes was a woman of deep faith throughout her life.  Her great joys were her family, friends and the First Mennonite Church community. Ahead of her times in many ways, Agnes pursued her education to become a teacher in rural Saskatchewan and then a nurse at K-W (now Grand River) Hospital. Perhaps her most fulfilling work was her 18 years with Family and Children Services in Kitchener for which she was appreciated as an exceptionally skilled and compassionate worker. Mom was a longtime board member for House of Friendship and the Eastwood Community and held many leadership roles at First Mennonite over the years.  Her intelligence, life experiences, level head and openness to embrace and lead change made her a valued member of these groups. In 2005, Mom made the big decision to move from the home that she and Dad had shared for almost 50 years to a newly constructed Garden Home at Parkwood and then, later, to her “cosy” Parkwood apartment. She has cherished her many dear friends in the Parkwood community: she often remarked that, from the very beginning, “it felt like home here”.  Until just a couple of weeks ago, Mom was a healthy and engaged senior, working on her crosswords, playing Words with Friends on her iPad, and preparing to lead her book club discussion.  We are thankful that she enjoyed such a full and happy life, and that we were able to have her as part of ours for so many years.  Mom will be deeply missed by her family, but always remembered with love.
