Maureen, Mark & Craig, My deepest condolences on the loss of Murray. I was welcomed into your home on Silverspring to babysit Mark & Craig while I was in high school in the early 70's. Fond memories of playing games with the boys. Murray also was trusting enough to let me listen to his extensive album collection which fuelled my love for music and gave me a greater appreciation of all genres of music. (especially the Beatles). Not knowing what I wanted to do after graduating high school, Murray encouraged me to apply for a job at UW which started me on the path to great jobs in business management including owning a pharmacy with my husband. Dear Maureen, Mark, Craig, and family Elizabeth and I are deeply saddened by your sudden loss of a beloved husband, father, and Pappy. The memorial service was particularly moving and a wonderful tribute to Murray and his rich professional and family life. I have many great memories of Murray dating back to our many years together at the UW Library--under his capable, steady hand--but the memory that stands out most for me is the annual library staff picnic in Waterloo Park. I can now easily picture Murray with his BBQ spatula and tongs as he stood beaming behind the grill, surrounded by hordes of happy screaming children, our two young'uns in there as well. Murray was truly in his element. These picnics were very popular with library staff because they were so well organized and always landed on beautiful, sunny days; they were also an opportunity for staff to bring along other family members and partners, to soak up the sun and enjoy the festivities. Many of us will long remember the piñata event!! Our sincerest condolences to you, Maureen, and to your loving, supportive family. Richard and Elizabeth Pinnell

To Mrs. Shepherd, Craig, Mark, and the rest of your fabulous crew. I have many, many fond memories of the Shepherd home from back in the Silverspring Cres days. I was in and out of your home and your lives many times during those formative years and Mr. and Mrs Shepherd were like a second set of parents to me. I have fond memories of jazz music blasting from the den, dinner preparation instructions on note-stickies, the faint smell of pipe tobacco, the curated bunny collection, and many-a-Lime-Ricky offered up as refreshment! I was always welcomed into the Shepherds' home as if I were another one of "The Bubs"... Mr. Shepherd always had inquisitive questions about my life and my perspectives on various topics, and an interesting factoid or quick quip ready. I always stood up a bit more straight when he was the one who answered the door. The vivid memory of the smile in Mrs. Shepherd's voice and the loving and supportive wink in her eye remains with me to this day. I feel so fortunate to have been influenced by Mr. Shepherd and Mrs. Shepherd, and I am very sorry for your loss. Please accept deepest condolences, love and support from Michelle, Jack, Justin, and myself.
