Thank-you for sharing the beautiful service. I’ll remember the good talks we had on a few trips we had to the airport so he could go home to visit Gord and Rhonda in Nebraska. And I will remember his beautiful smile. Love Cousin Angela

Although I did not know David well, I recall how kind and friendly David was to the people around at Grebel when we studied there at the same time. David's kindness is remembered. Deep condolences to all family and friends.

Sara, I have been holding you and your entire family in my heart and prayers this week upon the tragic death of David. I'm so sorry, and I know many people at Bread and Roses are grieving their loss. May you be enveloped in God's love as you remember and grieve.

Dear David
We still remember back in 1995 meeting up with Him, Gord, Rhonda and Sara in the cabin in Centenniel. It was during our sabatical year and we and the four of you came from different directions.
The result was, that we arrived first. And when you all arrived, he was absolutely convinced, that it was o.u.r home, where we were all going to stay. Not a cottage belonging to one of your friends. He was absolutely convinced that he and the family were going to visit us. Not the other way around. And though we tried to convince him otherwise, he insisted.
Again.
And again.
While it was hard to grasp for a 3-4 year old boy, the grown ups found it hard to keep a straight face. It was hard not to smile and laugh because this cute, little, blond boy was so sure of himself.
When we ended up giving in to our laughter, his firm response was:
“NOT funny!!! N.O.T FUNNY!!!“
His response has followed us through all the years since. And when one of us felt unjustly laughed at, we would automatically respond with a “N.o.t f.u.n.n.y!!!“ - and think of him, David.
Besides being the cutest response in a boy, this showed us a lot about his sense of justice. It showed a sensitive person, who was not afraid of saying NO. And who was ready to stand up for what he believed to be right.
This meant that we were not surprised when he chose his line of studies: Peace and Conflict Studies.
There is a ton of things that we could say about him and it´s hard to know where to start. Or stop.
To us David was all about kindness and sensitivity. And in this way he has a speciel “honest” ring about him, that always touched us.
We always think of him as the one introducing “funny nails” into the Brubacher family. Actually, when we met at Ken´s Celebration of Life, David announced that he wanted to come and visit us in Denmark. And very quickly David and Christel agreed that they were going to have their nails done. Together. When he got there.
So David - this one is for you (see photo of C´s nails)
Fred will get his nails done tomorrow.
Promise!
We will miss you more than you know.
Please, keep a spot for us at the nail salon in Heaven.
Honoured be his memory,
Fred and Christel
PS. We will join you in the live-stream memorial Tuesday. See you then, my dear.

I never had the opportunity to meet David, but I am inspired and humbled by their commitment to the causes they cared about and by the depth of feeling and thought with which they lived in this world. My greatest sympathies, Sara and Brubacher family. Keeping you very close in my heart and thoughts.
