Mr. Kraft was the principal at Sunnyside Senior Public School while I was in grades 7 and 8 there. He was known as a strict but fair disciplinarian. In Grade 8, all students were required to have a private interview with Mr. Kraft in his office. He asked us about our future career ambitions and then helped us to select the appropriate program for High School. When I told him that I was planning to go into the ministry, Mr. Kraft was most encouraging and supportive. He suggested among other things, that I should take typing in high school as that would help me to be able to type my sermons. I took his advice and am glad that I did.

Kraft family, my deepest condolences on this huge loss. I had the distinct pleasure of having Mr. Kraft as my elementary school principal at Franklin Public school from September 1981 onwards. I have very clear memories of being in Mr. Kraft's office, not for troublemaking, but on one occasion that pops into my mind, to get a treat for having lost a tooth in class. He was always the warmest, kindest and best dressed man! Working together with Mrs. Johnson as his secretary, I never understood the other children who thought of the Principal's office as a place to fear. It was, for me, a place I felt safe and cared for. His loss is huge, but his impact on so many children in the Waterloo region over the years is larger.

Sincere sympathy from Jamie and Sandy Hill in St. Agatha. Don was Jamie's Gr. 7 teacher/principal at Howard Robertson Public in the early sixties. He introduces us to the French language with a vinyl record during recess which began my path to becoming an elementary school French teacher. Merci, Don! Rest in Peace

Your family lived a few houses from our house on Edna at Ottawa St before the Expressway way built. I was one of four kids in our family & we all have the fondest memories of those days. The Sauerkraut story is a gem. Sorry for loss.
