With sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Hugh Benson Rogers on Saturday, January 21, 2023, in his 77th year, at University Gates Long Term Care Facility, Waterloo as a result of complications of Parkinson’s disease.

Hugh was predeceased by his parents Benson and Margaret (Murdock) Rogers.  He is survived by his aunt Lillian Smythe (Walter deceased) and his cousins Barb (Alf) Sage, Beverly Kabelin, Patrice Smythe, and Stephen (Elizabeth) Smythe and their children, Murray Matthews and his family and Dale (Chris - deceased) Lade and their children Jamie and Jenny.

He will be greatly missed by close friends Bonnie and Jim Rudnisky, as well as the family of the late Rosemary Lemieux. After meeting Rosemary in accounting class, Hugh became a valued unofficial member of the family, attending events and holiday gatherings, contributing helpful crossword answers, and providing cherished support and guidance. He was much loved by Adam Lemieux (Kate) of Nova Scotia, Erin Corstorphine (Andrew) of Guelph, and their children.

A graduate of the University of Waterloo, Hugh also received a Diploma in Accounting from Wilfred Laurier University. He went on to establish a bookkeeping and accounting practice.

Hugh loved all sports, especially hockey. For many years he was an enthusiastic volunteer in the Kitchener minor hockey system, coaching teams from Pee Wee to Midget AAA. He moved on to work as a player scout for the Ottawa 67’s and Windsor Spitfires of the OHA Junior A. He advanced to the position of Coordinator of Scouting for the Washington Capitals of the NHL. He was an avid golfer and a long time member of the Westmount Golf and Country Club.

Hugh delighted in his friends and enjoyed telling stories, singing songs, eating tasty meals, and having interesting conversations. An active member of Calvary United Church, he previously attended Olivet United Church, where he was a Trustee and member of the Finance Committee. Hugh enjoyed his time at Matthews Village, University Gates Long Term Care. He loved the nurses, staff and fellow residents for the friendship, kindness and loving care he received.

As per his wishes cremation has taken place.  Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Saturday, January 28, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. The funeral service to celebrate Hugh’s life will follow in the chapel of the funeral home at 10:30 a.m., with Rev.
