I want to extend my condolences to Professor Galvin's family and to say that I will always remember a very compassionate man who reached out to assist me. I was a Commerce student at Queen's in the 1960-61 academic year and took his first year accounting course. I was also well known since I have cerebral palsy and had at the time a loud, noisy stutter. During that era, the possibility of finding employment as a disabled person was slight. Professor Galvin must have recognized this for in second year, even though I was not in any of his courses he called me into his office one day to suggest I move in to the Arts program in third year and become an accounting student with a friend of his who would be seeking a student about the time I would graduate. I said thanks, but no thanks. Many, many times over the years I have thought about that conversation. Professor Galvin truly was an amazing person.
