James McNeill

Obituary of James Jamieson McNeill

Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at the age of 97.

James, or “Jim” as he was known, was an honest, caring and intelligent man. Upon graduating high school, Jim worked at Dominion Tire until he joined the Canadian Army at age 18 to serve in WWII from 1944 – 1946. After his discharge, Jim worked at Uniroyal for the next 41 years as a Manager of Logistics: Material Flow. He retired in 1984.

Jim was a long-time member and volunteer at the YMCA, eventually serving on the Board and receiving the Lou Buckley Award for volunteering. He was also a long-time member of the Rockway Golf Club where he was happy to have had 3 holes-in-one. Jim belonged to the Calvin Presbyterian Church since the early 70s and became an Elder there. He loved to sing in the church choir, and also sang with the Rockway Entertainers Glee Club for 30 years.

Jim will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Myrna McNeill, daughter Laureen McNeill, and grandsons Matthew and Samuel Georgescu. He was predeceased by his brother Alexander McNeill and sister Margaret Clayfield.

Thank you to the staff on the 7th Floor at St. Mary's Hospital for your compassionate care.
