Obituary of Jeffrey Allen Shirk
Passed away suddenly at the age of 64 on February 14, 2023, while vacationing in Curaçao with his partner in love, Maureen Ramsden.
Beloved brother of Dan (Gail Bourhill) Shirk and Jennifer (John) Witzel. Much loved stepfather of Michaela Ramsden and MacKenzie Ramsden (Kelsey Cook); fun-loving grandpa “Jeff” to Skylar, Xavier, Atlas and furry granddog Leo.
Treasured uncle and great uncle to his nieces and nephews: Amanda (Ben, Samuel, Jacob) Underwood, Jason (Michelle, Hadleigh, Tatrianna and Mackenzie) Shirk, Erika (Mat) Garraway, Amy (Nathan, Felix, Lyra) Johnston, Meghan (Steve, Frasier) Gilholm and Kelly (Benji, Josie, furry great nephew Toby) Jagger.
Scuba diving was “Shirky’s” passion. Diving in Tobermory Ontario and at the Browning Pass HideAway Resort in B.C always held a special place in his heart. His love of underwater shipwreck diving took him across Canada and to many international dive destinations. Jeff was a consummate gentleman. Everyone who met Jeff remembers his larger-than-life personality, positive attitude, sense of humour, and winning smile which gave way to developing countless lifelong friends especially in the dive community.
Jeff was an avid golfer and often mentioned that the best part of the game was the camaraderie with his golfing buddies. Many have enjoyed the outstanding customer service from Jeff Shirk Tax and Accounting Services. Jeff loved his work and the time spent getting to know his clients, the majority of whom became great friends.
He began each day by singing “today is going to be a good day”; this indomitable spirit was evident in his kind, generous, good natured, and thoughtful actions.
Jeff will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to have known and love this amazing man; he lives on in our hearts and beautiful memories.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be given to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Parkinson Society or Alzheimer’s Society.
A celebration of Jeff’s life will be held on Saturday, March 25th, 2023, at St George Hall, 665 King St North, Waterloo, Ontario. The service will commence at 11am with a reception to follow.
