You & your family are in our hearts, Mike and hope that the end of Laura's suffering brings you some peace. Having spent lots of time in the Grand River Hospital with Dad, I know the staff there are amazing and filled Laura's final days with compassion. I just discovered this terribly sad news. I offer deepest sympathies to her family and friends. Long ago, and far away, we worked together at St. Louis. She taught me about meaningful advocacy for our students. We also shared a few amazing trips to New York City, just one sign of her adventurous nature. I will forever cherish those times. Laura is certainly not forgotten. Again, my Sympathies.....

Mike, Tara, Mac and Lee and partners, I'm so sorry. I heard Laura's friend call her a renaissance woman - I just used the same phrase to try to capture her last week. An outstandingly bright and compassionate and fun person. Such a priviledge to have known and laughed and learned from her.
I wish I could remember what you said in this photo sequence Laura. You had us all laughing on a fundraiser walk for Parkinson's, and that pretty much sums up how awesome you are. ( Thanks Trish for finding the photo)
With love and sadness.

Laura was our spark! She never missed a beat or cynical humorous remark. What we thought should be done or said, Laura just did it. She was an amazing teacher, a true teacher who cared and led her students to a better place. This was just one of her many many gifts…screen writer, producer etc. I have her signed book Grand Central Station and it still makes me smile - like all the memories of Laura. She had a sharp wit, brilliant mind and the best sense of humour especially in off-sides. She put her wondrous energy into her dreams until they became reality.
The world was blessed with her larger than life presence and that will not fade with time. Just a thought of Laura brings a whirlwind of smiles and memories and her courageous, just-do-it spirit pushes us all to be better, caring people.
She will never grow old but stay youthful and challenging us to keep that spark alive.
We are sorry not to be with you on Saturday but send our love and thoughts to you, Mike, and all the family.

I will miss your smile, always reassuring, comforting, determined.
Your dreams and your energy were contagious, that was Laura for me: a Film independent champion, a comrade in arms, a tireless creator whose vision needs to stay with us... Your departure - so early - leaves us in shock ! But your memory needs to be honoured and your work continued... ! Rest in Peace my dearest friend.

Laura taught me so much about what it means to take a creative vision, and get in behind it and push. Her “never say never” and “there’s no harm in trying” mentality is one that has inspired me in pursuing my own projects. Even though road conditions stand in the way of my attending the celebration of Laura’s life in person today, in spirit I will be very much with those gathered to reflect on how her presence on this earth has touched our lives. Deepest condolences to all who are mourning the loss of Laura.

It is extremely sad to hear that Laura has passed. I will always remember the first day we saw each other at Pickelball. We looked at each other and said “I know you from somewhere”. That somewhere turned out to be from “The Hood” or as we called it “The Hollow”. Growing up in Waterloo, between the Old Westmount area and Beechwood. So we reconnected and caught up on family news. She was a much better player than I was, but inclusive and made every game fun to play. When I found out about her movie, she graciously gave me a copy and I have shared it with many of my friends. Just an incredible accomplishment and experience for her. My sincere condolences to all her family and friends. The world has lost a true genuine soul. Cathy (Biesel) Butcher

I have so many wonderful memories of Laura. We've been working together on a few films for many years and I loved spending time with her when she would come down to the American Film Market. We never missed a party and she was so comfortable at networking and could walk up to anyone and say hello. She was always so happy, excited and clearly passionate about writing and film producing. We spent 100s of hours on the phone and zoom over the years. She was an inspiration. Always smiling. And her never-give-up attitude was so refreshing especially in our crazy business. I loved her so much and can't find the words to express how much I miss her and will continue to miss her every day for the rest of my life. Suzanne Lyons, Burbank, CA

Laura, Fofo, was a treasured friend of the Truemner/Miller Family. She would visit with Timbits for the boys and coffee for Jane. When Paul Truemner was alive, she would spend a good half hour chatting to him which he always loved. My family will keep her memory alive. On her birthday Timbits will be shared and we will say a very special thank you to Laura. Her kindness, generosity, her love of family kids and cats and all of us. Sending our love and huge hugs to the family. Jane, Max, Jack and Truemner Family
