James or Jamie, as he was known to most, passed away peacefully at Grand River Hospital with loving friend and caregiver Marilyn Seyler by his side. He is survived by his nephews Ronald Joyce (Cindi) and Blake Joyce, niece Peggy (nee Joyce) Janssen, sister-in-law Joan (nee Mosser) Joyce and will be missed by many close friends. He is predeceased by his parents Sperry and Thelma (nee Ingall) Joyce, brothers Huffman Joyce, Clayton Joyce and Sheldon Joyce, sister-in-law Evelyn (nee Alfsen) Joyce and niece Donna Marie (nee Joyce) Eykens.
Jamie was born in St Marys, ON and grew up on Allen Street in Waterloo. He worked for Canada Cabinets, a local furniture company and, for a time, had his own personal workshop. He was quite the handyman, and would help anyone who needed a task done, a lawn mowed or something fixed...if he could do it, he would and then some! He lived for over 40 years on Princess Street and has been referred to as a local legend in Uptown Waterloo, where he would frequent the many coffee shops, restaurants and businesses, making lifetime friendships along the way. He was known for his storytelling, his laughter, his generosity, and his faith and love of scripture, for he always seemed to carry a Bible with him wherever he went.
Friends and family are invited for visitation at Erb and Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Saturday, August 12, 2023 from 9:30am-11:15am. Funeral Service will follow in the chapel of the funeral home at 11:30am and a reception will be held in the Fireside Reception Room following the service. Interment will then be held at Mount Hope Cemetery, Waterloo, after the reception.
Jamie's friends and family want to express their deepest gratitude to the wonderful staff of Fergus Place Retirement Home, where Jamie happily spent his last 2 years and to the compassionate nurses, doctors and staff of Grand River Hospital who cared for him during his last few days.
Condolences and memories of Jamie, as well as donations to The Canadian Bible Society or Grand River Hospital, may be arranged through the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
