"It's better to wear out than to rust out." This poster was in Rodger's office and reflected his outlook on life. Rodger was our "go to guy" when it came to metallurgy at B&W Canada. He was always willing to help, in his calm and kind manner. He was a wonderful colleague to work with. Rodger and I shared a love of singing in choral groups and, after we retired, we'd often cross paths at various choral events. He was just a great guy.
Dennis Dueck
(colleague of Rodger's at B&W Canada).

I shall long remember Rodger for his kindness, his wry and self-deprecating humour and his enthusiastic love of music. He and Karen were heart and soul members of the Westminster choir -- blessing us with not just their wonderful vocal gifts, but also their warm sense of community, their delight in people and their commitment to many different activities of the church.
Rodger had a wonderful sense of fun and enthusiasm which he maintained even as his dementia increased. Even during challenging times, he was curious, caring and energetic -- a gift to all who knew him. Thank you, Rodger, for all you have done to enrich our lives.

Roger had a love for music that he shared with us in Choir at Westminster. He told me about meeting one of my family singing at the Doon Church, but he loved to sing and got involved with the Harmonizers and we would enjoy our annual trip to "Dawg Haus Night' listening to quartets and choruses and Karen often got tickets to concerts that he enjoyed.
Music aside, he enjoyed being involved with Church activities like the maple syrup festival and yard sale and I will always remember his address in Church when he spoke encouragingly and threw down a gauntlet ( kitchen mitt ) as a challenge to make his point.
His family was always his first priority and his sons Brian and Craig loved their dad.
Roger was a passionate engineer and this brought him from the U.S. to work for Babcock and Wilcox in Cambridge.
He loved working with metals and this stimulated him to cast and enamel special jewelry for Karen.

Karen, I'm very sorry for your loss. I've been meaning for weeks to ask if anyone from the choir knew how Rodger was. Perhaps I was picking up on some wavelength that he would soon be leaving this world.
I've so missed his sweet presence sitting behind the piano in the choir. The goodness of Rodger exuded from him abundantly (my son Gabriel sang in the choir one year and told me that he just loved Rodger!) and I often felt his appreciation for the music I played. I'm sad that it's been so long since I last saw him.
Peace to you and your family.
