1939 – 2023

Sheila Rebecca Kumar (née Abraham), 83, of Waterloo, Ontario, passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at Columbia Forest Long-Term-Care home in Waterloo.

Sheila was born in 1939 in Wattegama, Sri Lanka, to Paul Thomas Abraham and G. Kirubai Nathaniel. Very bravely, she came to Canada on her own as a young woman in the 1960’s to forge her own path in life. She was independent throughout her life and exemplified the Christian values with which she was raised. She was modest, gentle, loving, deeply caring for others, always hard-working and utterly devoted to her family and loved ones. No one ever heard her speak an unkind word to anyone. Her strong faith always sustained her, even as she battled dementia for many years. Sheila passed away in the same manner that she lived her life – in peace and quiet strength. Memories of her will be forever cherished by family and friends who were blessed to know her.

Sheila is survived by her beloved husband Ramesh, son Rohit, daughter-in-law Fiona, grandchildren Chetan and Isla, of whom she was fiercely proud, and sisters Jessica, Gloria and Bertha, with whom she continued to share life-long bonds.

A memorial service will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo, on Saturday, November 11, 2023, commencing at 1:00 p.m. with a reception to follow.
