Crane, Walter Winchester
June 19, 1957 - November 4, 2023
Died in Grand River Hospital Freeport Campus Waterloo, Ontario on Saturday November 4, 2023, at age 66.
Survived by his son Adam Crane, wife Grace King, mother Linda Ashley-Crane, adoptive father David Crane. He was predeceased by his father Gualtiero Toscani.
Walter was born in Quebec City but shortly after, the family moved to Toronto. He attended Bedford Park and Davisville Public Schools before his parents moved to Ottawa. There he attended Hopewell Public School and Glebe Collegiate. When the family moved back to Toronto in 1974, he completed high school at Lawrence Park Collegiate and went on to attend Glendon College at York University.
Walter had a life-long interest in physical fitness and sports. He excelled at tennis and went on to obtain an Ontario and a Canadian ranking. In 1978, he and the number two player ‘brought home the gold’ at the Ontario University Athletic Association championships held in London Ontario that year. The event marked the first time in its history that the York tennis team was victorious.
Walter’s first job after university was as Assistant Squash and Tennis Pro at the Granite Club in Toronto. After a few years he made a change and went on to enjoy a long career in the investment business.

A Celebration of Walter’s Life will take place in the Fireside Reception Room of the Erb and Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street S. Waterloo on Sunday, November 19 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Cremation will have taken place.
